We just built a new house so I had several months to shop around for the fridge I wanted before we closed on the house. I was really set on the Samsung (similair model, 26ft capacity). I did my research and it had all I wanted for a good price. However, I went on a sale day for Sears (equivalent to an 'early' black Friday) and I got them to price match the Samsung against **********, give me an additional 10% off the difference, but the delivery wouldn't be until December 7th and I needed it November 25th. I was forced to choose a different model if I wanted it in time. So I looked over this whirlpool and it's pretty compatible to the Samsung less a few features I wish I would have waited for. The door does NOT have an alarm or beeping when the door is left ajar. I have 3 kids ages 15 boy, 9 boy and 7 girl. They are constantly not shutting the doors correctly and I don't catch it until way later, same with the bottom freezer. Plus, they're too short to get anything out of the fridge except milk.  Also, I wish I would have listened to all the people's reviews saying they get really dirty - they do. I have finger prints all over it and I wipe it down with a soft cloth and lemon pledge almost every other day to no avail. My veggies have stayed fresh, the temp is good and I had passed up a water dispenser (on any model I would choose) to save money. However, this has a small push botton inside with filtered drinking water (total bonus!) and I just LOVE it and it tastes awesome without the huge door water dispenser on the outside. As for the ice, I have 2 feet of snow outside my door so I don't use the ice really nor do I hear it either. So overall, yes it's great, but I wish it had a door alarm which is why I gave it 4 stars.

I bought an identical model of this refrigerator back in June 2004. It was our first one-- last was a 34 yr old model that was both scary and faithful.

Last month- June 2011-- the compressor start capacitor went out, so I replaced it. This past week- July- the same noise started again, and now I'm told by the service tech that the compressor itself is dying, and may have another week left.

Needless to say, I am confused and seriously irritated. How in the world could old technology make a refrigerator that could last 34 years, and new technology can't make one that will last 7 years?

I was so excited when we got this thing I couldn't contain myself. Now.... I really wish I could get a replacement that'd last....

Thank you sears for making a fancy pile of .....

Do us all a favor-- make refrigerators that will last. This is ridiculous. You charge $1200-$2600 and they die way too young.

We bought this refrigerator on a good sale about 3 weeks ago and have been very pleased with it. I read a lot of reviews and the Whirlpool was top of the line compared to some of the foreign made refrigerators. It was easy to configure the shelves for our needs. I like the feature of being able to put 2 gallon milk jugs side by side in the door. The ice maker keeps up with our usage. Fingerprints do show on the stainless steel but I use a product called Goo Gone and a soft towel to easily remove them. It is amazing how quite this refrigerator is. The only noise we hear is when the ice cubes dump. As far as the one extra drip that you get when you release the ice water button I simply hold the glass in place another half second. I expect this refrigerator to last a very long time.

The sale's price was key in the purchase as well as the configuration. It has plenty of room, quieter than the 12 old Kenmore we upgraded from but as quiet as we expected. The water dispenser drips a little (couple of drops so far) after dispensing just like the book says it would. The egg compartment won't accomodate a standard dozen egg container width wise. It has only been 14 hrours since installation.

It was damaged during shipment somehow, no fault of the crew who delivered in 100+ degree heat since the damage was hidden but Sears should look into their quality control and inspect items thorougly before sending out for installation. All we could get is a $100.00 gift card or $ 50 dollar cash for the damage besides waiting for another unit therefore having to go thru the hassles of swapping refridgerators!
