Whirlpool french door bottom freezer refrigerator
My husband and I bought this refrigerator one year ago and love it! I have 3 children and the older ones can easily get their own ice and food out of the bottom freezer which makes life easier for me. With the french doors you have plenty of room on the inside of the refrigerator for large food items.....like a turkey, cake, you name it! With a family of five I needed a refrigerator with plenty of storage and this one definitely has it!

2004 identical model, compressor now dead-Kenmore 596.75504400
I bought an identical model of this refrigerator back in June 2004. It was our first one-- last was a 34 yr old model that was both scary and faithful.
Last month- June 2011-- the compressor start capacitor went out, so I replaced it. This past week- July- the same noise started again, and now I'm told by the service tech that the compressor itself is dying, and may have another week left.
Needless to say, I am confused and seriously irritated. How in the world could old technology make a refrigerator that could last 34 years, and new technology can't make one that will last 7 years?
I was so excited when we got this thing I couldn't contain myself. Now.... I really wish I could get a replacement that'd last....

Do us all a favor-- make refrigerators that will last. This is ridiculous. You charge $1200-$2600 and they die way too young.

Expensive lesson
My other refrigerators lasted decades, this one before having major problems? Months. We initially had the same problems as was mentioned, ice build up in the freezer and the water running all over the floor. Now, with the refrigerator only being 2 years old, the compressor died. While I loved the configuration of the French door, I will not be buying Whirlpool again. For those of you thinking about buying this one, pass on this one, most expensive mistake we've ever made in an appliance.

Do yourself a favor, don't buy this
I made a mistake buying this fridge and ice started building up in the freezer. Then I learnt online other people are having exactly the same problem shortly after the warranty runs out. If you don't believe in me, just search this exact model number on ****** and you'll find not a single positive comment on this fridge there.

freezer door handle keeps coming off. handle was installed by store where we purchased it but keeps coming off in hand. also, freezer capacity is smaller than our last model. great refrigerator capacity and nice to have compartments and drawers.

The flexibility in storing many different size items is great!
For many years we had a side by side and loved it except that it couldn't store larger freezer items. This design allows us to now store larger things in the freezer as well as easily move shelves in the top to accommodate just about anything you want to keep cold. Plus the energy saved using it over our 20 year old one is amazing!

Except for keeping the front clean it is great! We like the water dispenser in the refridgerator. The water tastes great. The slide out tray in the freezer is a little stiff. The door handle comes loose periodically but is not a problem.

the dang stickers that come with the glass shelves!!!! omg, i've tried practically everything but dynamite to remove the residue that remains to no avail! GRRRRRrrrrrr anyways, other than that annoyance, the refrigerator is a Marvel - we're loving each feature more every day!
