A fine choice for my needs, so far. December 18, 2010

Had a small chest-type freezer give up suddenly without warning. Found out only when lid was lifted to reveal defrosted/spoiled contents. No light anywhere to indicate operation or lack of it. Food tends to get buried & forgotten in a chest-type, so, a portion of interior actually goes unused, accesssing items from top layers. Decided on this upright because: all contents visible and accessible, no more rooting through buried layers. lighted interior. operation light showing that unit is working, plus alarms for high temp. and door-ajar. Neat feature---when door touches cabinet it gets "sucked" closed to form a tight and secure door seal, requiring firm tug to open. Note for those interested, door is key- lockable to keep youngsters out of an unlimited ice cream or pop-sicle supply. Of 7 temperature settings (7 being coldest), a 3 setting gives a 0 degrees interior. Being an upright, yes it "runs" longer and more frequent than a chest-type and uses more electricity, I knew that. Each time the door is open, the cold air spills out, I knew that. Don't leave it open. A frost free unit, it uses more power and "runs" more, I knew that. And yes, I'd say it's slightly noisy but, It's in the basement so it's a non-isssue, I never hear it. Don't put it in the bedroom. Note that this unit is identical to the Kenmore badged unit of same capacity, but the Kenmore is priced significantly higher, go figure. They're the same, just different labels. I paid well less than $400. Very pleased with it so far.

No longer as reliable as before... January 22, 2012

The freezer worked fine, problem free from when we set it up for 1 1/2 years, then it stopped freezing.
We didn't buy a service plan, our fault, but shouldn't products last longer than this.
We paid a repairman $75 to come and tell us it would be cheaper to buy a new freezer than repair this one.
    Something about "internal contamination."
All internal systems are not only covered by a one year warranty.
    Is that right?
If it is internal then I cannot touch it, mess with it or break it.
If it has contamination then it is something from the factory.
"NO, sorry sir, still out of warranty."

    What a joke!

Do yourself a favor, stay away from Frigidaire and Kenmore products, they are not as good as they used to be.

Think twice before buying!!!! August 17, 2009
By ElianeF of Upper Fairmount, MD

Bought this freezer as it seemed just right for the price.  Unfortunately after 2 months it stopped working and I ended up having to throw most of the contents away.  Would definitely not recommend this to anyone.

Can't beat it or match it July 07, 2009
    By Anonymous of NJ

Looked at other brands and found this to be one of few if not the only freezer at this price & size. Yes it does make a small amount of noise when the compressor runs although ALL the others operate with the SAME noise. If you are looking for a silent model to place in a bedroom then do not buy anything frost free and have fun defrosting it manually. Fact is a $6000 unit makes the same noise. This has plenty of extra room although it's primary use is undoubtedly for extra space so it would be well suited in a garage or basement.
