    Expensive? You get what you pay for in replacement parts. Our water without the filter has a bad odor and taste, kind of like sulfur. Once it goes through the filter, it is odorless and tasteless. Also, it is relatively easy to replace. I like it a lot better than the one that is in the refrigerator.

    Easy to install and very good filter. October 05, 2010

    The PUR refrigerator Ultimate II is a good filter.  It thoroughly filters water of many potentially harmful minerals and debris. 

     However, I believe it is a filter that is way to expensive for only lasting at total of 6 months give or take depending on water usage.  With it costing on average $50 U.S. it really should have a life span of a full year and it should be a way to recycle it for a feasible discount on a new filter.  This would be more beneficial to the planet and make many more consumers happy like myself in buying the product. 

     It does the job and does it very well but it definitely should have a longer life and a recycle discount program incentive.  It works for many other popular products like propane and printer ink cartridges both of which are costly so I feel it would work well with this product.

    Another solution is to provide a cheaper equivalent filter.  It is way to expensive and the lifespan is too short.

    This is a very good but VERY expensive filter. At $60.00 it should last longer. I will be looking for a replacement at a better price. My former refrigerator, not a Kenmore, used a filter which was as effictive at half the price.

    I purchased a new Kenmore side-by-side with this PuR water filter in July 2011. This is my first time to replace the filer and I agree with all the comments about the replacement cost for this filter is too high. I searched the internet and found this company Discount Filter Store (http://www.discountfilterstore.com/water-filter-refrigerator-whirlpool-kitchenaid-4396710.html?fquery=09030). Same type filter is half the cost. I purchased two for a total price of about $63. I should receive delivery in a few days.

    This product is double what Kenmore's competitors charge for their filters.  Being manufactured  in Taiwan they must cost single digit dollars to make, then are slapped with $54.98price tags for the Pur logo.  Whirlool charges a reaonable $29.99 for their comprables, which have a 200g life as compared to the 100g life of these Kenmore replacements.  The claim is that the Ultimate II removes more impurities, but at nearly 2x the cost I don't see the value...
