Plugged it in and it quickly cooled down and was ready for use the next morning. The organizers in the bottom help keep bags of ice upright and easy to reach. I started my christmas baking right away and filled the compartments with cookies in ziplock bags but didn't have to worry about other foods falling on them and crushing them because they were in the organizers. The sliding baskets on top were great for frozen juices and breads. It was just the right amount of extra freezer space we needed without having to go with a full size freezer. I love it!

We now have 3 Kenmore freezers and they are all great. November 21, 2011

We raise most of our own food so we need plenty of freezer space. We now have 3 Kenmore freezers. The oldest is about 15 years old and they all have been very dependable. Not a problem with any of them. We have a simply storage. Meat in one. Fruit in another. And vegetables in the third. At this time of the year they are all full so we are ready for another cold Maine winter.

Kenmore Chest Freezer November 20, 2011

I recently purchased a Kenore 13 cu. ft. Chest Freezer, because I have a side by side refridgerator and even though I love it nothing fits into the freezer. So never mind not being able to stock up it's hard just to fit a weeks worth of frozen stuff into the freezer. So My Kenmore Chest Freezer works out perfectly it fits everything I need and them some in it. It was a great buy for the price.

Our electric energy supplier is running a recycling program through 2012. They picked up our 30+ year old, Kenmore/Sears 23 cu. ft,  working freezer & refunded  us $50.  We were sure that it was an energy hog & our electric bill keeps going up & up so we hope to save money by taking advantage of First Energy's program. Our old freezer was recycled & we purchased this smaller freezer.  Never having one problem in over 30 years with our old freezer, you can imagine my surprise when we plugged the new one in & nothing happened. It didn't work!  I still had the old freezer in the basement so it wasn't a big deal. We exchanged the new, non-working freezer for another new one & were given a 10% discount on the replacement for all our trouble. The replacement freezer works fine so far.

We've been using the new one  about a month now. I can't vouch for any savings on our electric bill yet because we had to keep our old one plugged in to prove that it worked.  I'll add the savings to this review if I'm able to update it.

Be sure to check the freezer's temperature. I found the factory setting to be way too high; it usually hovered around the 15 - 20 degree mark. I moved the setting to 5 and the temp. now registers between 0 and 5.   Try not to keep the freezer open too long at a time, the temp. goes up fast which is bad for the food &  probably causes frost to form quicker too.

Pros:

2 storage baskets & removable/adjustable partitions make it much easier to find food in a chest freezer & keeps food from falling all over the place; Light; Drain; Energy Star; Power light

Cons:

First freezer didn't work. The light takes up storage room; Lid is light so the slightest item in the wrong spot will cause the lid to stay open a tad. I put cans of pop on the lid to keep it closed; Outside hinges make the unit wider & harder to get through a doorway. Freezer temp: at the factory setting, 4,  sometimes the temp would be 20 degrees...it should be 0 or less for long term storage.  I moved the temp. control to 5.

I think my freezer is slightly different than this one. I don't have a frost indicator button and my temperature control is on the outside. My model # is 1634.

All in all, I like this freezer.
