Love it so far
We purchased this model on 09/27/08 and after letting it set for 24 hours(we hauled laying down) we plugged it in, could barely hear it running, it started cooling within 10 minutes, as usual our kenmore appliances are working flawlessly. Will add to this review a few months down the road.

Extreme Frost build-up
I purchased this item about a year ago to replace a similar freezer we'd had for 15 years. The week it was installed I was shocked at the amount of frost build-up. Nearly half of the top shelf was filled with ice.
I got rid of the ice and hoped that was just an installation fluke, but there is a continuous ice build-up in this freezer that makes parts of the freezer unusable.
Additionally, the freezer is poorly designed so that even though it is slightly larger than my last freezer, it holds fewer items. This freezer really needs additional shelves and/or storage bins to make the space more efficient.

We got a stellar deal on this freezer. Sears was having a 25% sale on all major appliances AND we opened a Sears credit card and received another 15% off. This is very roomy, cools quickly, seals VERY well. Don't close the door and then change your mind and try to open it again. It creates a suction that almost requires super-human strength to overpower. It's better to wait a minute or two for the pressure to equalize. I laughed at myself when I did this and pulling on the door handle resulted in moving the 1/2 stocked freezer rather than opening the door. But a seal that strong holds the cold in so I'm happy to have it. Door storage is adjustable but the shelves are not. The space between the shelves is plenty wide enough to hold a whole turkey on each shelf so you really don't have any unusable space. I have started monthly-menu planning so I put a lot of food in the freezer. I have the freezer organized by meats, veggies, fruit, etc. It's so very easy to see everything.

Works great, Was packed well, no damage when unpacked. I replaced a 12.1 ft3 for more space. Was at freezing within an hour and fully loaded with food. Easy to level. So far still working great - after about 2 months

Needed a freezer and this one was perfect. Bigger than I went for, but at a great price. Well thought out design, love it. It is in the garage so I can't comment on noise. It was everything that I was looking for.

Unit good, sales staff knowledge terrible
The Sears commissioned sales person told us that this one could not be put in a garage because it would not tolerate the cold. Because of this, we made space in the basement. Upon reading the owner's manual (after it was put in the basement) we found out that not only was it OK for it to be in the garage, but that the colder air would make it perform more efficiently. This same sales person told us that we could get weekend delivery for a few extra dollars and that we could pick a delivery time window. This was an outright lie. Do your research and don't trust the sales staff! Once the dust settled, the unit performed well. It is a good product, I would just buy it from somewhere else if I had to do it again.

Sears Upright Freezer
Large capacity upright freezer. Each shelf has cooling coils, and the freezer has an internal light. It is not self-defrosting, which I knew before the purchase. Very simple and nice design, seems to be working very well.
