Kenmore Freezer #2809 - Great! (but not perfect) January 26, 2012

Bought this as a replacement for another Kenmore that was going out.  Chose this one for the size, frost-free feature, and glass (rather than wire) shelves.  Lots of pros, a few cons, but fits my needs better than any others I checked out.  No regrets at this point; have had it for 2 weeks.

-- Delivery was extremely fast as well as on the day promised when I ordered online; also within the 2-hour window I was given the night before delivery.

-- Design of slide-out wire baskets shows improvement.  Not as likely to fall off the runners when full like my previous ones.  Bottom basket is supported by "feet" rather than all the weight being on plastic rails.

-- Interior "vents"..... the online picture shows one large vent near the top of freezer.  Pleasant surprise -- there are also two more smaller vents spaced farther down.  What's good about these vents are that the "slats" are angled down, so if a box gets pushed against them the vents won't be blocked.  However, I would be careful not to place an item in a flexible bag against them.

-- Pizza Shelf .... Fits two large frozen pizzas side-by-side, two high.  Could also be used for a variety of goods.  It's very convenient for easy access.  Yes, it's flexible, but I don't think you could put so much weight in it that it would give way.

-- Bottom shelf .... I used a plastic "crate" here to hold multiple quart bags of frozen garden tomato products. The crate fit perfectly with about an inch clearance at the top, left about half the shelf available for other large items (or you could put a second crate here).

-- Digital options are nice.

-- Noise level ... I think it's fairly quiet.

-- Shelf "bookends" and Basket dividers.... Easy to use/attach, but I don't think I'll be needing them; they resrict the use of the space. (Half my frozen goods are packaged meats.)  Bookends can be slid after attaching; Dividers can only be moved if basket is empty.

-- Alarm is quieter than previous freezer, but is OK. I do like the door alarm that goes off if the door has been open more than 5 minutes.

-- "Soft-freeze" section in door .... I would rather have another tilt-out basket.  Not tall enough for the ice cream I buy unless laid on its side.  The shelf above this section is not very deep.

-- Divided upper door bins.... Adjustable is nice, but you lose a lot of space with the division in the middle.

-- Interior depth for bottom basket and shelve space is about 2 inches shallower than the rest of freezer due to construction of back wall, but still perfect for the crate mentioned above.

-- White freezer.... sides are textured; door is smooth (would prefer textured).  What is shown in the online picture as blue, is acually blue (not a peel off protector film).

Quiet and spacious but hard to arrange food inside January 01, 2012

I'm sorry I bought this model. I wish I would have purchased one with plain shelves rather than racks, dividers and drawers. I do not find the bells and whistles very useful.

I should have looked online before visiting the store. I wasn't in a hurry and could have waited for one to be delivered.

The pizza box shelf is a joke, we don't eat frozen pizza and it bowed under the weight of some boxes of frozen vegetables. We don't eat much frozen boxed food, I bought this for meat. I cannot get mine loaded as full as the pictures show but maybe because whole chickens and turkeys do not stack like frozen dinners do....

I see a lot of empty space when I open the door. I actually have turkeys stacked two high to try to use some of the wasted space. Mine does not have two sets of drawers in the middle. Big ones on the bottom with a shelf on top then two feet of blank space then a drawer with the pizza box shelf on top.

Unlike some reviewers ours is really quiet. It is hard to tell it is running except the LED shows the temperature. Purchased in March of 2011. I once didn't get it closed and the door alarm is really quiet. Cannot be heard throughout our small house.

I am very glad I got the automatic defrost. We had a manual defrost for the previous ten or so years and it was a real pain to defrost all the time.

Has a lot of shelves and baskets, items are easier to find December 29, 2011

I choose this model because it has the energy star and because I wanted more shelves.  Most freezers have 3 shelves.  This one has 4 plus 3 slide out baskets.  So much easier to see & find what you have.  Its not super quiet, but its not in the kitchen so who cares.  The door shelves are adjustable. Over all, I am very pleased with the freezer
