    Nice Counter-Depth Refrigerator May 18, 2010

This is an early review as I've only had the unit for 3 days.  So far so good.

    The Goods:
The interior space is good for a counter depth, a bit better than the unit I had before (an Amana).   There is a gap behind the shelves but so far I  have not seen a problem with things falling because the back of the shelf has a tall "lip" that seems to stop items from toppling over.

Having the ice maker in the door, rather than inside the freezer storage area creates a more "roomy" freezer interior.  The configuration seems efficient.

Although the manufacturer says it will take 24 hours for the unit to reach optimum temp (37 for refrig, 0 for freezer) it was actually to temp within a few hours.  We stocked it the morning after it was installed.

The basic controls are all located right above the ice maker and it is very easy to use, quite intuitive.

I think the shelves are more adjustable than other units I looked at and about the same as my last refrig.

The unit is super quiet.  The only noise is a when the ice falls and the water fills for the next batch of ice but that's not much. You hear a little "hum" when the ice accelerator feature is on.

    The Bads
The ice maker is definitely the weakest link.  It starts working better after the freezer has been on about 48 hours.   If an ice maker is a big deal for  you then this may not be a good unit.   It does make ice very slowly.  The ice maker access on the door is very shallow so if you are trying to use a small glass or cup it is problematic.  There is a little dripping after  you use the water feature.  We have this refrig. in a "cottage" so the ice maker is not a really important feature.  If you have a family of 3 or more the ice maker would not keep up in the summer.

    One Design Issue
There are two unpainted metal "tabs" , one on each door along the base of the unit which appears to be part of the hinge. The tabs should have been "finished" to match the door.  Instead they look like something that should have been removed in installation.  It's a very distracting design feature.

the features although very good do not work well at all. example the shaved ice dispenser does not work, when requesting for water it is not cold but at same temp as from kitchen sink. sears has delivered five of this product to my house ; due to faulty features on this product. i do not think kenmore is the best frig for the money. its too bad cause i really do like the name brand.

Limited refrigerator space for the cubic feet December 31, 2009
    via Sears.com
    By aftpa of Allentown, PA
    Pros:
    more freezer space
    Cons:
limited space in fridge, ice falls onto floor, short filter life

I purchased this refrigerator several months ago after my Jenn Air died.  The freezer space is great but the refrigerator space is configured poorly.  The shelves do not go all the way to the back of the wall which allows for things to fall behind the shelves.  There are also limited possibilities for the shelf and drawer arrangements.  As with the other reviewers, the ice often falls on the floor and not in the glass.  In addition the filter has to be replaced too often, every 3-4 months.  I would not recommend this refrigerator.

Kenmore Elite Coldspot July 30, 2009
    via Sears.com
    By CPCU1340 of Orlando

I am very disappointed in the ice making function. There are only two of us and the ice machine cannot keep up. Glad I don't have a family of 4 or more! Even with the ice accelerator it is really slow. Furthermore, ice drops on the floor of the refrigerator missing the ice bucket sometimes. Disappointed.
