I purchased this fridge because of the following features: high gloss black color, curved top with concealed hinges, side-by-side with ice and water in the door, ice bucket in the freezer door, Kenmore/Whirlpool reputation for quality, and moderate price. After owning it for a couple of weeks, there are positives and negatives. First the positives. This is a really nice looking refrigerator. I love the high gloss (that matches my other appliances) and the contemporary styling. Although I wish they were a little longer, I especially like the handles. They are painted metal, so they are prettier and more durable than the plastic handles found on the similarly priced Whirlpool refrigerator. I also like the cooling jets in the fridge door and the ICE2 feature. The cooling jets pushes additional cold air into one of the door shelves to provide a cooler area for milk or drinks. The ICE2 feature produces ice 25% faster when it's enabled. The ice and water area is larger than most refrigerators allowing room for a larger cup. And, with Whirlpool's reputation for quality, this fridge should last me quite a while. Now for the negatives. The water from the door comes out at a very slow rate. Even though the water pressure in my house is set at an appropriate level. This seems to be a common issue among Whirlpool refrigerators, and it's very annoying. It appears Whirlpool has recognized and recently fixed this problem with their "fast flow" technology, but you have to spend $2000 on a fridge if you want this feature. This fridge has a feature that displays the amount of water dispensed. You can select ounces, cups, or liters. This would be a really handy feature, if it were accurate. But, on my refrigerator, it's off by about 10%. When the display shows that I have dispensed 8 ounces, it's actually about 9 ounces. The next model up has a "measured fill" feature which allows you to specify how much water you want the fridge to automatically dispense. This model will run you another $200 - $300. If you're thinking about stepping up to that model, I would encourage you to find out if that model has the same inaccuracies as this one. Anyway, on mine, it's not a big deal. It is still a nice guideline when filling my coffee pot. I'm just not planning on using it when accuracy is required. All in all, this is a nice refrigerator, and I'm happy with it.

Bought it last December. I've had a service tech out twice already to deal with the ice maker. It's a mess. The ice dispenser flap is electronically controlled. This means that it stays open for 10 seconds after using. This sucks in room temperature air into the ice bin. You can figure out next what this does to the ice. At times the flap opens by itself for a few seconds. The techs told me that this is a design problem. So basically, this is a nice way of saying "you're stuck with it." Secondly, it makes this low-pitched, raspy whining noise. This mostly occurs in the afternoon and evenings, so we assume it has something to do with usage and the interior fans doing their thing. Regardless, it has baffled the techs. Lastly, the drawers are a pain. The top drawer, usually used for meat/cheese, etc. falls off its tracks EVERY time. There is some sort of goo that was applied to the tracks when they installed it. Don't know if this is a lubricant or what, but it doesn't help the drawer stay on its tracks. Drawer is basically too narrow for drawer guides... another design flaw. Oh, and did I mention that my wife can barely open the doors sometimes. I've heard of a good seal, but that's ridiculous. The (satin finish) refrigerator looks great... keeps food cold... that's all I can say nice about it.
A problem we have had with refigerators in the past - the ice maker - has not been a problem with this one. BUT after about one year, the motor on the ice dispenser went out. The repairman told us that if you use a lot of crushed ice (we use about one cup per day) the ice dispenser will not hold up over time because it has a low torque motor. He advised us to get a maintenance agreement because the cost of repair could be around $200. Why would you use a part that will become defective about once per year?
