Kenmore top freezer refrigerator w/icemake October 09, 2010

We bought this fridge when our 20 year old Kenmore started to go.

This is a nice fridge.  It looks good.  It's easy to see what's in the fridge with the glass shelves and clear bins.  I have had no issues with the doors.  We have a chest freezer so we don't store a lot in the freezer.

We have a reverse osmosis system for water so there apparently isn't enough water pressure to use the ice maker, but we knew that may happen.

I'm quite happy with the fridge except for the door storage.  I wanted the gallon storage in the door thinking it would free up space on the top shelf.  I guess I should have realized that freeing up space there would mean giving it up in the door.  We have a lot of condiments like ketchup, worcestershire sauce, salad dressings, and such and they are too tall to fit in the door if we have used up that space with two one-gallon jugs.  It's awkward to get gallon jugs of water out of the door anyway so we ended up with the jugs back on the top shelf again like we used to.  Unfortunaltely, then we are left with a shelf that the items are crowded into to keep them from falling over and then harder to see what's in there.

All in all, I am glad we chose this fridge.  It has a nice clean look and seems to cool evenly.

    Delivered an non-working refrigerator May 05, 2010

After waiting 10 days for delivery, the refrigerator was finally set up and turned on. Few hours later, the refrigerator was starting to cool a little so I started putting food back in. The next morning the frozen stuff was thawed and freezer was warm. The refrigerator stuff was warm. Lost all the freezer food. By the 24 hour mark, when everything was supposed to up and running, still warm. Called service, they transfered me 3 times until I got someone to talk to me. The earliest they could send a repairman out was 3 days! Not good enough. He offered to have a new refrigerator sent out IN 3 DAYS! I asked for my money back. It is NOT good customer service to expect a customer to be put at the end of the line for repair and expect them to wait 3 days for a  brand new appliance to be working. The deliver men were polite and quickly did their jobs. The customer service staff were polite and tried to help, and it's not their fault that Sears has such bad polices. I know now why Sears is going out of business. It's not just inferior products, but they don't make it right when something goes wrong. I can't wait to see what fight I'm going to have to get my money back from Sears.

    In a word: terrible. October 05, 2011
    via Sears.com

    Pros:
    It was quiet once.,It's white
    Cons:
Extremely loud. Gurgles, and snaps.,Uses more electricity than it should.,Forced to buy a $15 brush 4 coils.

This fridge is a real piece of crap.  Seriously.

I've had it for 11 months, as my fridge.  It has become very loud, I can now hear it down the hall and in my bedroom.  When it was new I was impressed.  No more...but I'm told if the repairperson deems it "normal" I'm out the $100 service call.

It gurgles, grunts, and makes extremely loud snapping noises.  (Probably from shrinkage as the no frost circuit kicks in and out.

But get this--Expect to be forced to go online to Kenmore to buy a special brush to clean the heat exchanger.  Now keep in mind, I clean all my refrigerators every year, in every unit.  Not this one, the heat exchanger is built so it is almost impossible to clean, and requires a special brush--expect to buy one for $15.  Don't buy one and watch your electricity use double (after eleven months electric usage has increased about 15% determined by a Killawat meter.)  This is due to poorly designed heat exchanger coils and a crap cardboard back cover which warped and leaks air.

Further as time goes by I've had to increase the setting to keep it at a steady 38 degrees in the fridge.

The cover in the back is crap cardboard--shoebox grade.  After 11 months, it is warped and no longer functions.  I will have to cut one carefully out of 1/4 plywood.  Talk about cheap!

This is not a refrigerator it is a dog.

Great price for a large, quiet refrigerator. Great ice maker! October 01, 2011
    via Sears.com
    By CarolLintvedt of Janesville, WI
    Pros:
Clear bins,Glass shelves for easy viewing,Runs quietly, Great ice maker
    Cons:
    No Light in Freezer,Door storage

Overall, I like the refrigerator a lot.  The size is great, both for the refrigerator and freezer.  It is quiet and the ice cube maker keeps up to the large of ice we go through.

There are several little things that I would change, though.  The large freezer needs a light.  The light on the refrigerator is easily bumped and turns off when reaching for items.  The guards on the doors are nearly useless because items can easily slide through the bottom and do fall out. They are made of a cheap material and dent easily.

    Great replacement June 16, 2011
    via Sears.com
By HWLH of Liberty Hill, TX
    Pros:
Clear bins,Glass shelves for easy viewing
    Cons:
    No Light in Freezer

I purchased this refrigerator to replace a 20+ year old Kenmore that finally died. I was hoping it would hang on a little longer so I could get what I need for a new house I am building but that was not to be.

I purchased this one because it was in stock, had an ice maker, and fit the space I had. The unit was well packaged and once installed cooled down quickly. It started making ice within a few hours of being installed.

So far I really like the convertable/tall door section that allows tall items to be stored in the door. The unit is quiet unless the ice bin is really low when it makes a noise as the ice is dropped into the container, but then that should be true of all units.

Overall I am very happy with the purchase.
