Why a wooden dowel to hold up the salad drawers? December 24, 2009

Overall a great product but the center rail that holds up the salad drawers broke. There is no center stem to alleviate the weight from the heavy items (carrots, squash, etc.) My veggies are getting soft & drying up until I get the part. It costs $6 to replace the rail but shipping is $15! AND there is no way that I can order a stem (from another frig) to hold up the center rail which will surely break again. I guess my beautiful new refrigerator will need a WOODEN dowel to hold up the drawers. Bad engineering. Though I love my frig, I can't help wondering what else wasn't thought completely through.

    Mixed feelings December 13, 2009

Energy star, bottom freezer with sliding door, clear shelves - all that I wanted.  Refrigerator #1 delivered and installed, worked well but condensation on the door and ice formed on the freezer walls.  Turned out according to the installer for #2 that there was no insulation in one side of the door, hence condensation because not fully sealed when closed.  Refrigerator # 2 installed, went out of town next day.  Returned 5 days later to non-cooling, all food spoiled.  Repair man opened the back, condensor started, said something probably jarred loose in transit.  Then the noise started - happens maybe once per hour, very loud, if I put my hand on the side and press or open a door noise stops.  Not related to icemaker - that is off, guessing that something is loose.  When refrigerator #3 was scheduled for delivery, the installer mentioned that he had same model, noise was problem with most of them, and could expect leakage in year or so, strongly recommended a different model rather than installation of #3.  Also that with levelers only in the front, could not really level very well so could expect problems down the line with freon and oil mixing.

Bottom line - when the fridge worked, was a nice set up, nice lay out, was great.  However not cooling and making horrible noise in the first 30 days made me lose faith, so going to a different fridge.  Missing my 1978 GE side by side terribly.

On the plus side - Sears customer service - fantastic through all of this.

    Pros:
Bottom drawer freezer,Full width deli drawer,Energy Star,Ice Maker,Single door design

This refrigerator replaces a fairly old Kenmore Space Saver refrigerator with a bottom freezer. The bottom freezer is most convenient. I spend more time in the refrigerator than the freezer, so it only made sense to put things I use most in an upper compartment. We wanted the pullout drawer instead of the door. The full width deli drawer is very handy, giving a total of 3 drawers with the two additional half width drawers with humiidity control. Similar refrigerators did not offer a full width deli drawer in this price point. We also preferrd the single door to the french door because of the available shelf space on the door. We can put up to 4 one gallon jugs on the shelf, not so on the french door. We also wanted something more energy efficient, not to be green, but to save money on utilities. It is very quiet and keeps food at just the right temperature, even at the factory settings. It is 5 cubic feet bigger than the old refrigerator, and we enjoy the extra space. The width and depth are perfect, but we had to remove some cabinets to accomodate the height. This would have been true for all but apartment sized refrigerators. Wonderful purchase.

    10 years old! August 05, 2009

I have had this refrigerator for 10 years and am just today getting a new one. It lasted through 4 kids (3 of them boys) and 2 moves. The compressor needs to be replaced at this point so I am not getting it repaired ($1,012.48 repair quote from Sears). I have to say that I hate to see it go. When the kids were little the bottom freezer was perfect for help yourself popcycles and ice cream (we live in Texas). It has worked terrifically and even withstood my boys standing on the freezer door to look at top shelf items in the fridge. Good bye old friend.
