When it comes to high-definition TV the pinnacle of performance is achieved by using 1920 x 1080 display panels. And BRAVIA V-Series televisions have them. Full HD 1920 x 1080 panel resolution with over 2 million pixels (more than twice that of 720p HDTV) is exactly what you need to reproduce the 1080p content. And working with BRAVIA Engine EX everything from standard definition and high definition is upconverted to 1080p for a picture so real it's like you're actually there.
While it's great to state that a TV is capable of creating billions of colors it's a whole lot better when you have a display that can actually display them. That's the logic behind Sony's 10-bit processor and 10-bit display. Sony follows 10-bit processing with a 10-bit panel, allowing 64 times the levels of color expression than an 8-bit panel. What that translates to is smoother transitions from color to color and subtle color changes faithfully reproduced.

I bought this Sony because it was the first HD TV I would own. I had the Bravia model ( 2002) Vega style and was very happy with it. So I saved the cash bought it at a great price at Kmart and have been very very please since.

Stop Shopping Buy the Sony August 19, 2008

This was our first LCD and I researched them to death. I could not help but notice that every time I walked into Sears or one of the big box stores that one TV stood out for clarity, crispness and color. It was always the Sonys. Sears matched the local warehouse price and gave me ten percent off. We have had the TV since March and are very satisfied. We moved to a house with a longer living room and are considering getting the 46 inch for our living room and moving the 40 into a spare bedroom-den. Study them all and then buy the Sony.
