Great Picture May 08, 2009
I have had this TV for 3 weeks now. I researched it and it is rated #1 in consumer reports for a picture this size. The compare it to the Pioneer 1080P. They were right. The picture is great. It is easy to hook up. The sound isn't that great. You have to keep adjusting on different channels. Also the commercials seem to get loud. I recommend getting a home theater to go with it for the sound.

Antenna Users Beware! March 08, 2009
I got my TC-P42X1 a week ago and I found it has one very major drawback for antenna users. Each time you scan for channels, it erases what was previously scanned, so if you have peripheral channels in several directions, you either have to rescan each time you rotate your antenna, or just pick the direction your best channels come from and live with it. This is a major disappointment since the Zenith DTT901 DTV converter box easily added channels from all directions. It also had a much better guide setup which showed what show was coming on next, as well as the current show. The Panasonic support line representative told me that this is pretty much true of all Panasonic sets. If it is possible for them to change this behavior with a firmware upgrade, I would love to see that happen. Other than that major drawback, I love the set. The picture is fantastic, the sound is excellent, and it is easy to switch between all the different inputs. Highly recommended for anyone that has cable or satellite signals. I got it for only $701 because of Sears' price match policy. I used my credit card Thank You points to purchase Sears gift cards since I knew that I could always get the best local price at Sears, reducing my cost considerably.

Pros:
great picture,Picture Quality,Value for Money,Easy to hookup,Easy to Use,Had it set up in 15 mins.Had doubts about this tv since the price was so low but I couldn't have been more wrong. You will have to fine tune the picture so it meets your viewing preference but after that you are good to go. I originally bought the LG from sears which is about the same price as this one and it didn't quite have as good of a picture in HD. I mainly watch sports and this tv delivers a great picture even with fast moving players on the screen. You can't go wrong for the price and the quality of picture.

Yet theres nothing wrong with it at all . Most cable channels are 480p some are 720p which look great and very little are 1080i But when there is a 1080i channel this tv gets it and WOW its an amazing crystal clear image. Love the 5-6 zoom options it has. Only problem with this tv and alot of tvs is that it doesnt have a VGA INPUT! I dont know why it doesnt but jesh its a big disapointment if your into using it as a monitor. ( look up burn-in image before you do this though on a plasma) You can buy a $80.00 adapter that goes from vga to hdmi (your tv) ,unless your laptop or desktop has a hdmi output then your set.
The sound is amazing and the best ive heard out of any tv deep bass also. Out of the box the picture was amazing but you can tweak any color , contrast, anything to meet your needs.
This is the best buy ive ever gotten even for an openbox item .
Hopefully it lasts years and years!
Dont go cheap in namebrand when you buy a plasma , Ive done alot of research and there tvs are only guarenteed for little time in hours life. Panasonic was the first to brand there tvs as 60,000 to half life . Then the compeitors did the same like sony, philips, ect..
And for screen size this 42" is big big . If your not sure if its big enough for a living room or bedroom .., its bigger than enough.
