    Samsung Blue Ray HD Theatre July 26, 2009

    Got this system primarily to upgrade my home theatre system with a smaller unit and obtain Netflix streaming. I had had an older receiver/ digital convertor combo that tookup 1/2 space in the cabinet, plus generated lots of heat. No room for a gaming console or Netflix Roku box. The Blue Ray capability was bonus but great to have anyway. Works great - especially when combined with My Samsung LCD HDTV. Samsung components use Anynet that allows samsung components to talk to each other and be controlled by a single remote. Works about 85% with just one remote. For example, when you put in a blue ray, the system turns the TV on, switches to the Blue ray and mutes the TV sound. When watch TV - if I want surround sound just turning the the Receiver activates the surround and mute the TV. An unexpected bonus was the ability to play music files off a usb hard drive or stick. I have an old 30 gig usb1.0 HD loaded with my music and it plays off that unit perfectly. Netflix/Pandora Streaming works great Only hiccup - the system requires you to use the speakers that came with it. special 3 ohm speakers with propriety connectors - you cannot use regular speakers with it. The speakers are good and well balanced but do not match high quality speakers. This was not spelled out either on the box or the downloaded manual but not unexpected.

    Speaker not built for music listening & no PC Streaming video November 27, 2009

    I tested the system with some symphonic music, and the front speakers make squeaking noise when the music is loud. Then I turned on Dobe ProII and the center speaker does the same. When the music is mild, the over all sound is plain and tasteless. Then I hooked the two front outputs to 2 polkaudio floor stand speakers and it sounds much better.

    I don't know if this is the right way to test it, but sounds like this system is not built for music listening.

    Also, please be aware of the following. The model on sale at Sears is HT-BD1250T/XAA. This model does NOT support PC streaming of video, but only mp3 and jpg. I contacted Samsung customer support and they confirmed that only BD1250/XSA supports video, the BD1250T does not.

    I got this Black Friday and just got time to hook it up. Set up was a breeze and now I am enjoying some movies.  The Blu rays look amazing and regular dvds look almost as good.  The sound is also great and really clear.
