22-1/2" One-Touch Silver Kettle Charcoal Grill works great March 16, 2011
The 22-1/2" One-Touch Silver Kettle Charcoal Grill is great we love Weber grills. The only problem I have with it is the handle, It should have one on both sides not just one to pull it on it wheels. Our first weber had 2 handles and it's much more convenient. Also it needs to be deeper or the lid taller to accommodate 2 chickens on cans, the lid will not fit over two chickens standing upright.

Everyone loves the Weber. It's built from sturdier materials than the other options, has a nice look, and generally good design. But it's overrated.
The design "wins" are pretty clear. The large, deep bowl blocks the wind and makes it really easy to light the coals. Use some shredded paper and dry sticks of wood, and the coals will start. No need for lighter fluid.
Putting it together was easy. There's only minimal hammering and screwing involved. Easier than constructing IKEA furniture.
The design flaws are evident too. The grills have wider gaps than our previous ones, and this means food is more likely to fall through. It's not a problem with hot dogs and meat, but a problem with green onions.
The grate the coals sit on is kind of wide, too. Fine for briquettes, but kind of difficult with lump charcoal, which comes in different sizes. The solution probably involves using a screen or mesh to hold the coals.
The ash-pan design is okay, but your ashes will blow around. The "canister" design other kettle grills have is better, even if it's more prone to breaking. The solution here is to just let the ashes gather in the bottom of the bowl. The vents below are large, and you don't need to open them very much.
So, is this a good buy, or should you look elsewhere?
If I had my druthers, we would have gotten a replacement of the previous grill (a Char Broil brand) but it's not made anymore. The similar replacements were inexpensive, but made of a thinner steel, and didn't seem as sturdy as the Weber.
I think it's worth the extra $30 to get this, but you may have to adapt it to work for you. The way I see it, none of the products out there was perfect, and there weren't many charcoal options. Charcoal grills are on the decline - eveyrone is buying gas grills. This one has to last, and if it lasts 20 years, when it expires, I'll be an old man and won't care.
I'm giving it 3 stars, just because everyone else is giving 5. It's still a very good grill. The only ones worth considering are the Weber and the other kettle style grills. The folding "suitcase" grills aren't worth it. (The "hibachi" style is nice, but they cost as much as this big Weber. What's up with that?)
