This grill works GREAT and is very versatile !!! February 27, 2011

I bought this grill on sale for $100. Took it home, unpacked it and set all the parts out on my workbench. I kept looking for the assembly instructions, but couldn't find them. After a bit of searching through the packing material, I finally found the assembly manual stuck to the back of one of the cardboard filler pieces!

From that point to full assembly was exactly 2 hours, and I was working alone. Tools: 1 phillips screwdriver, 1 straight end screwdriver, 1 pair of pliers, 1 ten mm wrench, 1 ten mm socket/ratchet, 1 eight inch adjustable wrench, 1 hammer.

One thing to look out for is that steps 1 and 2 in the assembly manual are a bit unclear. Look at step 1. The FRONT of the grill is where you would stand to cook and open the grill lids. You should draw a persons face right after where it says 1 FRONT LEGS. This would be the cook standing in the cooking position. The four legs are a little tricky to get into the correct positions. The smoker end legs (to your left as you are in cooks position) are longer and have plastic feet inserted into the bottom ends. The wheel end legs (to your right as you are in cooks position) are shorter with no plastic inserts. Take a close look at the holes in the legs and you will see BIG holes for the axel rod on the legs for the WHEEL or right end of the grill. Also, make sure the small holes for the bottom storage shelf are are on the inside (step 3 in manual). Additionally, look for the front shelf attachment holes on the two front legs. I put taped labels to the four legs >Front Left smoker >Rear Left smoker >Front Right wheel >Rear Right wheel

In step 15 HANDLE AND TEMPERATURE GUAGE be careful to tighten the temperature guage nut just until it is snug. Use your pliers not a wrench. Over tightening the nut will break the stem off.

In step 16 SMOKE STACK my smoke stack flange (with the two screw holes in it) was all bent kitty-wampus. It was welded onto the smoke pipe that way. So it did not seat correctly with the grill lid. A little tapping and tweeking with a hammer got it to fit good enough.

After assembly was complete, I followed the BEFORE FIRST USE instructions on page 16. Then I fired her up again with a fresh load of charcoal in the main section and an additional few more in the smoker box with a good handful of cherry wood chips. I cooked steaks and burgers for a family of 4.

Let me tell you, the meat was juicy and delicious and had just a hint of cherry smoke flavor. This grill beats the GAS TORCH grills by many a mile !!!

(except of course for start up time).

Nice smoker but will need mods if using to smoke meats March 08, 2011

Okay! So I have had this smoker for 2 months. I waited to write a review because I am new to smoking and I am the kinda guy that feels if there is anything worth doing it needs to be done right. The first time I used the smoker option I was kinda disappointed. The stock thermo never broke 200 degrees. I found this odd and read other reviews with the same complaint. So, I did my homework online and found a site that would be a great help to any new smoker. Check out smokingmeatforums.com. There are lots of good folks to give you some tips. The tips I found helpful for this model are first of all check ur temps with a digital thermo. But, first test your digital thermo in boiling water. Water boils at a constant 212 degrees. Second, make a charcoal box. It will get you a hotter fire. Third, raise your grate that the charcoal box sits on. It will give you better air flow and again get you a hotter fire. Lastly, create a baffle/tuning plate out of the stock charcoal plate used for the barrel side of this unit. I personally posted my mods on the site listed above.

Great so far September 22, 2010
By cb1000 of Winter Park, FL

The paint peeled a little on the first but I had it too hot as well so it was expected. Worked great though. Nice size because it's not too big but not too small. Did a great job on ribs and wings. Assembly was pretty easy.
