Works well with a few adjustments
Got the cultivator as a gift. I have 7 acres of mostly unbroken prairie sod in Colorado. After adding about 50 lbs weight to the cultivator, and adding weight up front, it performs very well. I plan on adding several more tines, and making the depth adjustment easier. Overall, good performance if you don't try to overdo it.

crop cultivator
the cultivator works very well in loose soils at slower speeds. If there is any clay or rock, the tangs actually break fairly easily. That's due to a design flaw that locates the bolt hole on the tang exactly at the flex point for the tang when it hits something in the soil. Subsequent metal fatigue at the flex area causes a break over a relatively short time. The Sears tractor model and attachments were recommended for properties around three acres. This cultivator broke three out of seven tangs in two days using the second highest depth setting (least), working in clay and topsoil mixed (no stones), and speed settings of three ( 1 tang) and four (2 tangs) of the six speeds available. I was working a plot of one and a half acres so speed settings one or two would have been ridiculously slow. Incidentally, a new set of tangs and shipping costs as much as buying another new cultivator.

Tire spinner

I bought this for use with my Craftsman Garden tractor. Here are some things you should know:

1. Must have sleeve hitch to use.

2. Better get tire chains as well, or you will spin tires at any decent depth.

3. You will need weight to put on this thing, with no weight it barely scratches the surface. Of course, even with 100 lbs on it, see #2 above.

4. It isn't very easy to assemble, will take you an hour or so and make sure you have ratchet set.

5. I haven't broken any tines yet, but my soil is not hardpack.

Craftsman Crop Cultivators look like junk

They must have a bunch of tennis playing city boys making these attachments.  Sears needs to make them get out there and try to grow some crops, especially corn, with these things so they might be able to actually know what the purpose of a cultivator is.  The old 1970's cultivators had sweeps, shovels, weeder bars, and hillers with more ground clearance than the tractor.  These new things they call cultivators should be called crop destroyers because of the low ground clearance.

Cultivator

This product worked great. I had 2 acres of weeds to remove prior to planting grass seed. Even though the liturature says different, this works on my Cub Cadet model lt1045 with only one modification, removing the gear disengage stick.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Garden

I just purchase this item, and so far I am well pleased. I am in the process of preparing my garden for planting. I'm pulling it with a Craftsman GT 5000, with no problem.

4 stars

I purchched this product 2 seasons ago and use it behind a 22 hp Craftsman garden tractor. It does the job for which it was intended. The only suggestion I would make is to replace the nylock nuts with regular nuts because the nylock nuts prevent quick readjustment of the cultivator setup.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Weak Performance

I found this to have very weak performance. It did not perform anywhere up to what I expected or the sales person indicated it would. It is going back, 15% restock fee or not.

Have used mine for two seasons

I have had my cultivator now for a few seasons and have used it a lot. It does what is does...however, I also add extra weight because I like to deep cultivate the ground. Remember, this isn't a roto-tiller or a plow...so don't try using it as one. All in all, I give it 4 stars

I would recommend this product to a friend.
