Craftsman lawn sweeper works great! May 11, 2011
Purchased this yesterday - assembly took approx 1.5 hours. All parts present and fit properly. Directions were easy to follow and assembly required only one person. Height adjustment easy to make with manufacturer's new modifications to sweeper. Used it today to pick up grasss from my upstate NY lawn which seems like it needs mowing and raking more than once a week the last few years. I have to say I cannot believe I waited so many years to purchase this unit. It works extremely well, picking up at least 80% of heavy grass on the first pass and most of the remaining 20% on the next one. Lighter typical clippings are gone right away. Cannot comment on durability at this early point but it seems well made on first examination. Good sale price ($70 off) plus an online coupon....life is good!

After 1 year of use... some cons: November 18, 2010
Cons:
1. Assembly was complicated;
2. Level bar tends to slip;
3. Welding on crossbar between wheels broke away; had to be replaced with a heavier, galvinized pipe;
4. Can't make tight turns (even 30%) because tongue frame runs into tractor wheel;
5. Dragging it back into position is difficult;
6. Fabric basket wears down on edges and corners;
7. A 1/2 full basket won't allow a 24 hp Craftsman up even a 10% hill;
8. Frequent emptying is arduous, even with a rope attached to the top of the basket in order to stay seated and pull it forward to empty from the rear. It's heavy!

First Timer User of a Lawn Sweeper-WOW! February 01, 2012

This is the first time I have owned or used a lawn sweeper. I have numerous gumball trees in my yard (beautiful but extremely messy due to the gumballs) and use my Craftsman lawn tractor with bagger to mow up the leaves. However, a lawn tractor is not able to pick up the heavy gumballs and so I have always had to do it the hard way...raking, raking, and more raking. Not unusual to rake up 20 to 30 extra-large lawn bags of gumballs each season. Decided to give the sweeper a try and did lots of research before deciding on this one. Wow.....it really did a great job. Spent less than a couple hours doing a job that used to take 10 or 12 hours and left me sore for a week. Only problem that I had was the wheels locked up a couple of times (as mentioned in some other posts) but I am not sure if that was due to my inexperience with setting the height and/or driving too slow while trying to learn how it operated. Problem went away when I adjusted the height and learned which speed was most efficient and effective. Putting it together was not difficult, but does require two people for some steps. If using it for debris that is heavier than leaves, you have to be careful not to overload the sweeper....it will hold a great deal and it is easy to fill it up to the point that it is too heavy to effectively dump using the rope while seated. Overall, I am very pleased and hope to get a lot of use out of it.

It slides on wet leaves and long grassWould buy it again. Instructions aren't to hard to follow, but they could be a little more definitive in certain areas. I have a yard full of various assortments of trees/leaves and the lawn sweeper picked up almost all of them without me even having to use a rake. In some areas where the leaves are really deep and wet, the tires would lock-up and slide, but that should be expected to happen. I have always used a yard-vac in the past, but the leaves don't burn very well after they are mulched up, which is why the lawn sweeper is so much better. Plus, the lawn-vac was annoying because you had to find a place to dump all of the mulched leaves and you also had to break your back doing it. Overall, the lawn sweeper isn't flawless, but this was the easiest year of picking up leaves out of the past 8 that I have been doing it.
