this 2 bin soft bagger (for 38 inch) works great for me. December 18, 2010
Before I bought this product for my Craftsman LT1000 38 inch Riding Lawn Tractor, I had read all the reviews here and had a bed impression of it. I was mentally prepared to use bagging blade when I ordered this product. It turns out the product works very well for me without changing to bagging blade. It cut grass while bag the clippings. Here are several import things when you use the product. 1) the unit fits to the opening of the blade deck very tight, although it is very easy to get mis-fit. At the beginning, it did take me about 5 min to get it right. this is most important step. (You must get it right. otherwise, you may want to return it and get a refund). 2) I used shift 2 when I cutting and bagging the clippings. the speed of the riding mower is about 50% faster than a self-propelled walking behind lawn mowers. 3) The bagging empty/full indicator (a red wheel on the collecting tube) did not work for me. I need use my hand occasionally to touch the bag to feel whether it is full. When the left side bag is full and right side of bag is almost full, it is the time to empty these two bags. Do not let the right side bag fully packed. it will case clot in the collection tube. Since the bags are at right heights, it is very easy to empty the bags and not stress on my back.

This bagger gets the job done,...but, the engineering is average, at best. The flow of clippings up the chute and into the bags is "very good", but the connection of the lower chute to the mower deck is poor and it tends to try to slide upward, leaving a gap where clippings shoot out, and not up the chute.(also a potential safety hazard) Also, the upper chute is @ 2 inches too short. As the bags fill and the weight pulls down on the unit, the chute partially comes out of the entry hole... another potential safety hazard. Oh, the gasket of the entry hole comes off VERY easily and is a nuisance. With bettr attention to engineering detail, this unit would be awsome. As it is, it;s satisfactory.

I guess I would have to say this bagger is okay considering it is the only one available for the 38 deck Craftsman LT 1000. The key to making this bagger work properly is to use BAGGING BLADES. The all in one blade (mulch/discharge/bagging) combo do not work at all with this bagger. You have to have bagging blades. It is a pain to have to change blades back and forth.

I HAD TO GLUE FOAM RUBBER TO THE LIP ON THE LID WHERE IT CLOSES DOWN ONTO THE BINS,TO KEEP THE CLIPPINGS FROM COVERING MY LEGS.
