No Spark Arrestor April 10, 2008
I'm giving only 4 stars only because the tractor does not come with a spark arrester. Last year my neighbor's tractor backfired and started a grass fire that burned up his pasture, tractor and threatened my place. Spark arrestors should be mandatory in the West. The mufflers are located low in front of ALL small garden tractor brands. I don't think any brands come with a spark arrestor, so this is not a Craftsman only problem. When I was mowing some dry weeds, I actually smelled burning grass as it contacted the hot muffler. No fire, but was a concern. I ordered a spark arrester from Sears for $27, and installed it. I had some difficulty installing it because it fits between the muffler and the deflector on the muffler. The deflector had to be removed and the screws were very difficult to remove. Otherwise the tractor is great. Plenty of power and it really chews up the grass and and spits it out fast. I've used a rear scraper with it and plenty of power for that.

Is not a garden tractor July 29, 2008
This nothing nore than an over powered lawn mower. It will cut brush as big as it will push over, if you don't minding buying the blades for it. And the land is level so it will not get stuck. I keep a chain and pickup truck handy. I don't understand why they call it a garden tractor. It will do nothing in a garden. If yoy want to tend a garden, buy a Farmall Club. 2.4 hours the clutch stuck and I couldn't even mow grass. The repair service was prompt, but he didn't have the part to fix it. 4.6 hours later, the ignition switch quit working that was supposed to allow you to backup. Never even called for repair. All you have to do is pull a switch. What's the difference? If you read the add's, a big deal is made about cup holders. Ever try drinking a beer or even a Pepsi after it has been shaken up? Of course, if your lawn is pefectily level and you ride very slow, and you can afford a lot of extra power for nothing, then buy this one. But if you don't weigh too much, a much smaller LAWN MOWER will do for you, then save yourself a thousand dollars.

I couldnt disagree more. i have owned this lawn mower for just over two years and have nothing but great things to say about it, I live on four acres that are by no means flat in fact quite the contrary, with steep slopes and much uneven ground the mower cuts right through any task at hand and does it with ease, the power comes in great as i have pulled a heavy loaded trailer around the UNEVEN property and it does a fantastic job. I have even gotten my truck unstuck using the lawn mower and a tiedown. I will say it seems to go through blades a little fast but for as good as it cuts anything ...ANYTHING... in its path no matter how tall, thick, or rough, im sure i put the blades to their limit and beyond, while the mower as i said comes through with flying colors! i receomend this to anyone who want the job done fast, clean, and to have a small tractor around!
