As great as my old Craftsman tractor that it replaces. April 14, 2010

I owned a Craftsman lawn tractor for over 15 years. It is still running decently. I was actually looking for a replacement mowing deck, as mine had finally rusted through. Unable to find a used one and seeing that a new complete assembly cost almost $500., I figured I'd go ahead and spend double that and replace my aging tractor as well. When I went looking at Sears, however, I found that they had changed manufacturers for 2010--the old Husqvarnas were replaced by Cub Cadets. I had really had good luck with my old Husky. Luckily, I was able to find a 2009 model on clearance. Remarkably, after all these years, the frame and much of the mechanicals seem similar, if not identical; many changes appear largely cosmetic. I felt right at home looking the tractor over and, later, mowing with it. I do like some of the improvements I have noticed, like the air filter and the oil drain. Unfortunately, a couple of other things seem to have gotten flimsier--we'll see if they hold-up as well and as long as the old ones. A big disappointment is the lack of rubber pads on the footrests--the bare metal will be very slippery (and dangerous) when wet. A catalog picture of this model shows it having the pads. (Another reviewer said he also had this problem and was later given the pads when he showed the service guy his neighbor's identical model--with the pads; I'm going to go after them, too. His tractor was also missing some decals, as is mine.) My old motor always had sufficient power and this new one has a few additional horses. The first time I cranked it over, it kept surging. The fuel may have been old--it had come out of my [Craftsman] snow-blower. When I topped-up with fresh gas, it evened-out nicely. I have no problem with the touchy clutch and the quick take-offs--I have had years to get used to how to avoid them. This new tractor seemed much tighter, smoother, and quieter than my old one. The steering almost feels power-assisted in comparison. I'm glad I was able to get my hands on this tractor before they all disappeared!

Good, Basic Lawn Mower March 25, 2010

Have owned this lawn tractor for just about a year and used it over a dozen times. This is a very basic mower which gets the job done, but will not give you an even cut. I have spent a lot of time adjusting the deck, but just can't seem to get an smooth cut. I suppose I will have to break down and buy the rear guide wheels. When cutting very tall grass, seems to leave a strip in the middle where the grass is not evenly mowed. I highly recommend getting the mulching kit, cause without it, it will throw the clippings a good ten feet. Motor starts up quickly but is loud, so if you have a lot to mow, ear protection is a must. So if your looking for a basic mower, with lots of power, which will give you a decent cut, I recommend this mower.

I like this mower and I think people need to read the manual. March 11, 2010
    By DFox5 of Gainesville, GA
    Pros:
Speed is easy to control with the gearin,Starts right up,transmission works nice,Easy to steer,Comfortable ride

I bought this mower around the first of Feb. 2010 so I don't have any grass to mow yet but I have rode around some and mowed leaves.  I think it's a good mower.  I customized my mower with new paint, decals, a nice racing type steering wheel, an oogah horn, rubber foot mats, and a home made metal roof.  I can't wait til the grass grows :).  Check the video review out for how it looks. One thing you should do before buying this mower and that is Join the Seaars Craftsman Club and Shop Your Way so you will get a discount.

    Pros:
    Starts right up
    Cons:
wish 800 # ppl spoke english

We purchased this rider to get rid of our push mower we had for our 2 1/2 acre property.. ( yeah we liked exercise back then ) but honestly ive read the reviews.. and have never had any of those issues.. actually i just pull the mower out of garage today and it fired up right away.. wow.. i was impressed.. since it sat thru a very cold and 37 inches of snow a record for our area of town.. so very impressed.. just surfing sears for tuneup items came across this forum figured id toss my 2 cents worth in .. but to the guy with steering coming off.. i did have that happen on my 2nd season on owning mower.. but with anything that vibrates..things come loose.. or maybe im too easy.. but a quick bit of threadlock and tightened and has had no issues since..
