Finally my first riding mower April 10, 2009
The first thing I have to commend is the Sears team. Its was an online sale, but I had many questions all answered. The delivery went on without a hitch. I received it 2 days after sale and delivered within a 2 hour window on Sunday no extra charge. Then they gave me an extra 10% VIP coupon. This mower barely ran me 1100$ with delivery what a deal. The next question was how does it run? Alot of people dont realize but you have to level the deck for your optimal cut which I dontknow if this should really be done by sears but I'm handy so no problem. It start up instantly with some minor vibrations only when the blades are active. not a major deal I ride a Harley. It cuts well but my only complaint is if you follow the books instruction and only run at full idol the tractor jerks into gear. The way I resolve this is by lowering my idol to the turtle crawl speed and raising the idol after my gear is engaged. This solves it mainly. You have to be careful with these tractors because you can ruin a tranny by jerking into gear like this. I didnt by the Hydrostatic mainly because I hear to many issue and I dont want my wife and kids to ride my new toy.The turning ratio is great and it cuts very well. My 4 hours of using a self propelled mower is down to barely 45 minutes. I make 30 + dollars an hour so this tractor will pay for itself in less than a year. I recommend this a great buy.

No steering! June 03, 2010
After looking for several weeks, finally decided on this one. Sears salesman said that I should get the 6 gear model and not the hydrostatic model due to my hilly terrain. Tractor arrived yesterday. Started right up off the truck. I adjusted the tire pressure and the deck wheels (almost needed an air hammer to loosen & tighten the nuts!) and started to mow. After 20 minutes, the steering went out. Looked under the hood and the steering column got loose and moved up and down. When up, the gear would engage the axle gear to turn the wheel. When down, where gravity took it, the gear was below the axle gear and would not engage. Steering wheel could turn round and round. Luckily, I could pull up on the wheel to engage the gears to get it back up the hill and into the garage. Sears will be out tomorrow to fix. I'll update the post then.

I am pleasd so far but the hood seems to bounce around a lot. Have only mowed once, but wow, I should have bought this size tractor sooner. Cut my work in half. With the deck wheels, sure makes the lawn look better than ever. I have the hydrostatic trans and really enjoy being able to change speeds on the go. Turn radius is surprising and great, even better than the smaller Craftsman tractor I had before. Normally I would hit something in my yard every time I mowed, but with this kind of maneuvarabiltiy I didn't hit anything, Since some people probably think I drive like Mr. Magoo, well I really like this feature. The single cylinder motor is louder and has more vibration than I had expected. But it looks very accessible for maintenance. Surely a simple hood latch could be designed.

I like the tractor but when engaging the blades there is alot of rattiling and vibrations. I have checked and adjusted everything and even changed blades. Does anyone else have this issue?
