This thing is GREAT! May 02, 2011

So I've had it a few months now, and used it plenty. It was delivered to the house, dropped off in the driveway, and they had me start it and drive it around before they left. They even took a minute to go over a few things.

Now, keep in mind I moved up from an old RER Snapper (25" deck).

This thing is wonderful! My yard is only about 1/2 acre. Front is Zoysia (sod), and the back is Fescue. I'm able to cruise right through the thick Zoysia with no problems at all. I also have the 2-bin hard bagger, which works well on this mower. I have noticed in the Zoysia there is an uneven cut between the 2 blades and I'm trying to figure it out. Also, I'm trying to adjust the deck higher. As it is, when sitting on the pavement, the deck is on the ground between settings 1&2. I haven't used anything lower than 4 so far.

I compared it to other brand mowers, and this one had them beat in options and price. The four deck wheels are great, and the 24HP V-Twin B&S engine is smooth and strong. I love the hydro transmission. Makes it a snap getting around the yard, letting me inch along when I need to. The mow-in-reverse feature is convenient too, but a little annoying that you have to remember to turn the key back an extra notch after it's started.

The new tight turning radius is excellent. It doesn't work well at higher speeds, as the tires don't want to grip enough and it understeers. Go a little slower, and it works great.

A few complaints: The "Fuel Gauge" window below the seat is hard to see through. The hood assembly doesn't latch. It just sits over a few "lumps" in the molded part of the tractor around the steering. It will vibrate, and the plastic shows where it's rubbing but you only see it when the hood is up.

I used to have to get my push mower out to go around the house and landscaping, but with this mower, I'm able to maneuver around things so close and slow that I just have to weedeat when I'm done! I like the replaceable oil filter, and there's even a tube clipped to the side that appears to be a drain hose for the oil - to make oil changes a breeze.

I couldn't be happier with this mower. Do some research if you're in the market. I hear the same company makes these, that makes some other brands that cost a lot more.

I wanted a craftsman but now I am confused August 15, 2009

YT-4000 six speed. 24hp 42". I would love to know if anyone who thinks this is a great machine is using the mulching kit. I am on my second tractor, after a month of trying to get a replacement without having to pay for it in full. Finally, I got it. The first cut was much better than the old machine. BUT, it is just as bad now. Whatever height I use, including the highest (and my grass is not too high), it leaves a big trail of grass behind me on the right side. Very bad if use #5, a little better if I use 6. With 24 horsepower, this thing should blow right through grass and leave no grass behind. Im burning tons of gas by going over my lawn twice to clean it up. I will be returning this. My neighbors all have craftsman and only 14.5-15 horse and cut a lower height in one pass with no debris left behind and these are 10-15 years old. If you plan on mulching, I would NEVER consider this tractor.
