YT 4000 42 inch tractor manual is inadequate June 09, 2010
I have a YT 4000 42 inch tractor with 24 HP. The tractor is easy to use and and maintain. However, the user manual leaves out a lot of detail. The one issue that was not discussed in the manual but was told to me by the help desk is that the key must be removed from the tractor when the tractor is not in use. I had asked the question as to why there were 2.4 hours already on the use timer. The person couldn't really answer this but did say that she thought that the timer increment while the key is inserted in the tractor. We have subsequently removed the key any time it was not in use. The manual doesn't discuss this at all.

Broke after one month... July 29, 2010
I bought this tractor one month ago. It has 4.5 hours on the clock. Today while mowing the lawn I couldn't get the blades to engage. Turns out the blade engagement cable snapped. I called the 1-800-4MY-HOME number and they told me the next available appointment for repair was two weeks from today. After explaining to them that this was completely unacceptable they told me there was nothing else they could do. If it were not for the 15% restocking fee I would have driven my one month old 1700 dollar paperweight back to Sears and never stepped foot in a Sears store again. I really cannot express my dissatisfaction with this product and the "service" I received from Sears.

Flimsy front body workNot only do I work in the Lawn and Garden department at my sears store, I'm also a loyal user of Craftsman products. I own this tractor and deeply love it!!! I have around a two acre yard and it's amazing for my house!!!!! The new turn-right technology is insane!!! I couldn't believe how much time it cut done from my usual yard mowing amount. Which I wasn't too happy about seeing as this is my tanning time :). The speed this 24horsepower briggs motor has behind it is astounding!!! Very happy with my purchase and highly recommend it to customers everyday!!!

The Craftsman YT 4000 riding mower is fast and powerful. January 02, 2012

Pros:
Engine,Price,Cut width,Well designed.My yard is all down hill and must be mowed by going up and down the yard instead of across. The riding mower pulls up the yard with great power in high gear. Shifting to a lower gear to go down hill is very easy. I love mowing my yard now that I have a riding mower that is powerful enough to pull up hill with little effort. It takes me about 45 minutes to mow about 1 acre of grass.

Add chainsIf you are looking for a trail-mower for hills and woodlands this mower climbs and cuts great. The engine and transmission combine to provide the power to climb hills (think about purchasing chains when you buy) with a mower deck that actually has the ground clearance claimed and a width to move easily around / between trees, rocks and roots.
