Craftsman Revolution - The most fun you will ever have mowing! October 20, 2010

I am very happy to be able to review the Craftsman Revolution tractor. It seems like this is one of those items that splits people right down the middle. I decided to side with the 5 star folks and am glad to be among them now. I purchased this awesome mower a few months ago and have a few mows with it now under my belt. My only regret is that is now fall and I will not get to use it until spring. So let me hit a few major points which made me give it 5 stars.

Style - First off this thing is mean looking. I have not seen anything that looks like this thing does. The Craftsman red is very sleek and makes this thing look more like a sports car then a mower. I can only imagine what this might turn into if it was in 'Transformers'

Comfort -  5 Stars here. The adjustable seat is very comfortable and the arm rests are very nice. If I need to take a break when working in my garage I often will sit back on the Revolution and relax.

Maneuverability - This is my first experience with a zero turn but I had no trouble operating it. The hydrostatic runs smooth. You will not set any land speed record with this but it does move right along. What I like is that you can make turns as wide or as tight as possible. I can hug every obstacle and my mow time is very short compared to my old 6 speed tractor.

Deck wash - This is a nice feature that I have been using. It seems to work well and this is a machine I want to keep in top shape!

Cut - This thing makes nice smooth even cuts. No problems here. It seems to have enough power to push through the thicker stuff well but I never push the mower in this regard. I want a one pass job.

CONS - Ok. It can't be all fun and games. Here are the negatives I have had. First, I got it home and couldn't get it started. This was caused by the parking interlock switch that had a broken mount. Once I figured out the problem I was able to start it and mow by holding in the switch with my finger. I called sears who sent out a tech and ordered the part. I ended up just installing it myself when it came in and in about 5 min. Problem solved. Next I guess you could say that this is expensive and it is. It does make a rather unusual sound. But that’s just the design and you don't notice it after a while. (And why aren't you wearing your ear protection anyway?) It is also true that at full throttle when you let off the break you get a little lunge from the mower. Expect it, throttle down, or grow up.

Overall I love my Revolution. There will always be stuff to pick apart and lemons out there. But follow the directions, maintain, and use your equipment with at least some care and it will be great. At this point I would definitely recommend this mower and hope/trust it will serve me well in the years to come.

    Where's the horsepower? July 27, 2010

I got this unit home added gas and checked the oil.  I turned the key and nothing, battery was completely dead.Upon further examining the engine compartment, I realized that the positive cable was not connected to the starter.  After I got everything hooked up which should have been done at the factory, I still had to jump start the mower.  After starting the mower, the sound of the transmissions are really pretty loud, louder than the motor itself.  All that being said, the only thing I am really disappointed in is the 22hp Briggs & Stratton motor.  For a motor that big you would think it would go faster than my 16hp **********.

Excellent mowing machine! July 23, 2010
    By geodaddy of Fredericksburg, VA
    Pros:
Combo of ZT and tractor,Easy to use, agile, fast,Starts easy...

The Sears Revolution zero turn riding mower is the best I have ever used.  It gets the yard done extremely fast leaving a well trimmed look.  The new style syncro-transmissions give good control with the hydrostatic drive.  Hilly areas are no problem, because the low center of gravity and power of the Briggs & Stratton engine make the mower move along with ease.  The transmissions have a higher pitch whine than typical transmissions, but it is the sound of technology on the march.  Be sure to start engine in a slower rpm range so that it won't lurch slightly forward.
