So far I'm very happy with this tractor. I have been using a ********** Garden tractors the last 20 years. I did not think that this light weight tractor would really do the job. We have several acres and lots of trees. I'm impressed by the way it breaks up the leaves and have not even used the mulching kit. It has a very good turning radius that allows me to get close to trees and not have to stop or back up.
The ride is not as good as my ********** but part of that may be because the tires are smaller. Both tractors have comfortable seats.
The only thing that I don't like is: it is hard to load on trailer because the mower deck sits low even when it is raised to to the top.

I purchased the YT4500 with the 54" deck at the end of April. I have an acre, more or less, to mow. I had been using a Poulan with a 42" deck that has been very reliable, but I gave it to my daughter.
My yard is flat on the front and one side and hilly and rough on the other side and in the back. The deck adjustment and the width of the deck were not suitable for my yard. The 4 setting was too high and the 3 was too low. I tried for a month to get the proper adjustment, but it just didn't work out on my yard. I would have scrapes and gouges no matter what I tried. Finally the motor kept shutting down every 30 minutes and wouldn't start for 10 minutes.
I took it back to our local hometown dealer and thanks to Sears Satisfaction policy was able to replace it with the professional 42" with 12 cutting heights. I used it yesterday for over an hour and it works great so far.

Bought tractor in Sept 11 and have been very pleased with my decision.I looked for about a month before buying this tractor.I have 3 acres to cut with a hilly back yard.
mowing the lawnRan great first time. Second time used pulley wheel become loose and ripped into plastic molding. Belt frayed and smoked up a bit. Somewhere something wasn't assembled right. This was second lawn tractor. First one went 15 yds and croaked. I'm on my third and last. Poor saleslady trying to make a living selling junk so far. Height adjustment was never right as I could only go down one notch.
mowing the lawnThis is a great machine. I have about an acre with some steep sections and it had no issues with it. I towed a Craftsman professional chipper vac behind it and it took the hills with ease (the vac weighs about 500 lbs). It has great suction, when you turn on the deck it sounds like a jet engine firing up---finally and answer to those pesky acorns!!!!!! Even better I got a great deal on it as a prior season model right before they came out with the "Tight Turn"
mowing the lawnThis is a great mower, but be prepared to baby the belt drive system. The blade engagement process is VERY twitchy, the belt will come off the guide wheels if you just suddenly turn off the tractor without disengaging the belt drive. You must stop the mower, slow the engine, disengage the blade drive, then shut off the engine. Otherwise you run the risk of the belt flying off. I removed the belt drive covers on the top of the deck to facilitate rethreading of the belt. It doesn't happen often to me anymore, but with the covers off it makes it MUCH easier to rethread the belt without tools in the "back 40", as well as making it easier to get cut grass off of the top of the deck when done mowing. The belt and guide wheels are exposed, but you can't get off the tractor or reach them with your foot without the whole thing automatically shutting off anyway so the chance of getting caught in them is essentially nil. More annoying than anything, but not annoying enough to get rid of the mower. I think it wouldn't come off as much if there were a way to tighten it a little more. The belt just has a tiny bit too much slack in it. If you're careful and take the neccessary steps to avoid it, the belt will never come off, but I forget every now and then and end up on my knees rethreading it. The first time I ran the mower I hit a pile of concrete/sand hidden under some tall grass that the builders had dumped in the back of my yard and it promptly stopped the mower and snapped the belt. Took one week and $75 for a replacement belt to be mailed to me, which went on the mower with use of a socket wrench and about 20 minutes of my time. The power cut off under the seat is probably the most annoying feature of this mower in my opinion, but I do see the safety value of the feature, especially now that I've removed the belt covers on the top of the deck. If you so much as lift/shift your weight off the seat it tries to cut off the engine, but proptly sitting back down allows it to keep running. It works almost too well! I can mow my entire 1.57 acres on one tank of gas and it takes about 1.5-2 hours, but I don't mow it at full speed. Full speed I could probably finish in about an hour, it really gets up and runs at full speed, but the grass wouldn't be cut properly! The motor does bog just a little in really high grass, but it never loses power and so far I've mowed thick Bahia grass at least 12" high with it without problems. Turns VERY sharp, and will throw you if you turn it hard at full speed if you aren't careful! The hydrostatic transmission is great for easing up to trees to cut close, I rarely use a line trimmer anymore. I've owned several Craftsman lawn tractors over the years, and so far this is the nicest one as far as operation goes. The belt issues were annoying at first, but once I figured out how to avoid them they really aren't an issue anymore. Access to the filters and oil inlets make maintenace a breeze. If you like your kidneys, let a little air out of the tires so it doesn't bounce around on you and it'll get much better traction, too! It does have a lot of plastic components, but none of them would inhibit the operation of the mower if they broke or got damaged. The mower is steel where it needs to be. It may seem cheaply built at first due to the amount of plastic on it, but it rattles no more and has no more plastic parts than my 30 year old Craftsman tractor of the same basic size, and sure rides/operates a hell of a lot easier! Not having to shift gears makes it worth every penny to me! The belt is a hell of a lot easier to replace on the new mower, too! The old one involved removing the entire deck, this one only requires two bolts to be removed. The headlights are all but useless, though, so don't expect to mow in the dark. If like me you realize that all lawn tractors have their quirks and are prepared to deal with this one's minor belt issues, this a great mower for you and I highly recommend it for anyone with an acre or more to mow weekly.
