Don't let it's size fool you!
We put in a garden close to 20 years ago. At first we borrowed a Mantis from a relative. (It looked so small; I didn't want to spend a lot of money on something I wasn't sure could handle the job.) It didn't take long to convince us to purchase our own.
Once you use a Mantis tiller you won't want to use anything else. It's easy to start, easy to maintain and the biggest feature for me (being a woman) is how light it is and how easy it is to use. When my kids were living at home they were able to use it as well. My oldest daughter is gardening in her own home now, and comes over every spring and fall to borrow it. (Mom and dad used to borrow it and have since bought their own!)
I love how it turns the soil into a fine powder. It's wonderful for planting seeds and makes transplanting flowers and vegetables a breeze. I also use it to dig holes for trees and shrubs (It's much quicker than digging by hand). It's so light that I can thrown it in the back of my van to till the gardens at church. I love my Mantis! After 15 years it's still going strong. I really couldn't garden without it!

Save Your Money
I gave it 2 stars because it is indeed light.But otherwise you'd be better off getting a cheaper,more powerfull tiller.It doesn't work on wet or damp soil and if the ground wasn't already tilled prior to using you'll have a very jumpy Mantis.Grass and weeds,regardless of how low cut they are just jam up the tines.I spent more time cleaning off the tines than actually tilling.

Greatest thing for the small gardener
I am a retired woman and wanted my own size tiller, so bought Mantis 10 yrs ago. My 3 sons all borrow it for the flower beds and the early small plantings like peas, lettuce and brocoli before we tackle the garden after frost. One son used it at boss' flowerbed and she ended up running out and getter her own as it is so easy to use/handle. He let her use it and she was amazed at the power it has. My neighbors borrow mine on their gardens each year and is just as good now as it was 10 yrs ago.

Saw commercials for is cultivator and said to myself, yah sure. I have a Troy bilt pony, and it tills the soil. Well guess what. This Mantis is a soil tiller too! I was blown away with how well it works. UNBELIEVABLE!!

Mantis 2 - Cycle Gas Mini Tiller / Cultivator
Larger handle grips then previous model to absorb vibration. Choke button rather small, but functional. RPM runs faster then the 4 cycle so it chews up dirt faster. It's nice that its light weight. Make sure you put enough oil with the gas so that you don't burn of the engine like I did with the previous cultivator. It works great for planting flower beds between bushes.
