We bought this tiller last year. There were mixed reviews, but to rent one here and there was not cost effective. We didn't need a large rear-tine model but wanted something that would till a garden, be ready when you needed it, and wouldn't break the bank.
The first time I used it it started right up and ran like a chanp; eating through dirt and small rocks (sometimes bigger rocks like the size of footballs and basketballs). We ended up using through out the summer for other landscaping projects around the house - it beat the @&#$ out of digging with a pick and shovel.
This spring I pulled it out of the shed after sitting though a cold, snowy, Pennsylvania winter. I forgot to drain the small amount of remaining fuel before winter, but low and behold, I filled it up with fresh gas, followed the simple 3-step starting procedure, and it fired right up on the first pull. It chewed through a 40 by 60 foot area with out even a hiccup.
We are redoing our entire yard and the following week I tilled almost 1/3 of an acre of ground. After about half of that I stopped for a minute. At that point the drive belt had come off the pulley (this was one of the issues many had complained about). But my fear was ease when I removed the housing and popped the belt right on. I believe that it was in continuous use for such a long period that the belt had become warm and stretched just enough that when it went to idle it slipped of. I finished the rest without any issues and did some more with it yesterday.
All in all - this is a great piece of equipment and is well worth the money when it comes to saving my back.

I've had my tiller for 5 years. I'd echo the reliability others have reported. The problem I'm having is the god-awful design of the handlebars. The handlebars are run through a hole cut into the central stem of the machine. The handlebars are *welded* to that stem. Well, after having to support the weight of tilting the machine up and down for five years, it let go on me yesterday. I'm not a welder and don't have a torch, but I couldn't believe how stupid this design really is. Buyer beware.

growing my foodThis thing is one of the best tillers I have ever owned. It tills beautifully. Easy start, easy to handle. Plenty of power.

Worked great for about three summers. The weak poorly built transmission case, tore out of the flimsy metal housing. More to fix than buy new.
don't buy this tiller very unreliable with very limited instructions that aren't very clear. I bought one and used it a few times and it all the sudden wouldn't start. I tried everything checked the oil drained it to make sure I had the exact amount specified. I tried different choke and drive settings nothing. I then opened the filter noticed oil leaking from the air filter all over!! ahh cleaned it up and tried pulling the started another 150 times, nothing. I exchanged it and got another. ran it a few times same deal, oil came out the air filter even know I had the right measured level. I then noticed gas leaking out the carb and the air filter clogging it into a mess cleaned it up. I did not run this thing hard at all either I even let it run between on and off tilling needless to say this tiller is junk, I even noticed manufacturing flaws when adjusting the belt from coming off which was also an issue but an easy fix with adjusting, there were missing bolts to hold the belt housing to properly attach to the engine block and without these bolts its got an enoying rattle. I don't know what to do I'm mechanically inclined so I'm hoping to just deal with these issues myself if I can get some input in what the problem is, my guess somehow there is to much gas is being pushed thru the engine causing it to flood and thats why the gas was to come out the carb.. if these problems continue I guess craftsman will continue to loose money on my 2nd returned tiller or have a lot of repairs to fix under my warranty
