Performs as it should.
Purchased this mulch kit for my 2009 LT2000 tractor, in an effort to reduce the amount of leaf sweeping trips that would be required to fully clean my 1 acre yard.
This kit functions quite well, appears to be made fairly well, and installed easily and without any problems.
Other reviews seem to indicate problems with the provided discharge cap not fitting properly, sliding, etc. I am not sure if many of these individuals issues were the result on not following instructions properly, but I have had zero issues.
Install took roughly 6 minutes between the blades and the chute cap, and I spent about another 10 minutes adjusting the deck level to match the new, unbent blades. If one follows the single page instructions, leaves the original discharge chute cover in place, and ensures their deck leveling is properly adjusted, there is nothing to blow back into the drivers face, uneven clipping, or anything else.
Other than this kit being maybe $10-15 too costly, I have nothing negative to say about it.
It does it's intended job well.

Stick with the original blades...
This review is based off a New England lawn in very good shape that grows fairly quickly week to week.
I purchased my 42" Craftsman Lawn Tractor in the Summer of 2010 based on the reviews as compared to the Deere models at the same price point. I was looking for a way to minimize my bagging efforts as well as hit the grass with nutrients from the clippings. So, I decided to shelve the bagging attachment and purchase the mulching kit.
As others have noted, the cover for the discharge compartment is fairly flimsy and is not secured well but it does the job. The more problematic issue is the overall consistency of the clippings after they are discharged. The clippings come out in a straight line and are fairly heavy and aren't scattered or dispersed as advertised. In addition, the lawn looked like a mohawk after the first pass which required a second pass to truly cut the grass to the level that I intended. Giving the blades the benefit of the doubt, thinking the grass was just too long I went to mowing the lawn twice a week. Similar results in that the grass wasn't getting cut to the point to minimize clippings, and required a second pass to have a fully even and level cut.
I have since moved to bagging with the mulching blades until I can get to sears to pick up replacement blades for cutting-only. Still taking me two runs over the lawn to get an even cut.
In summary, if you are thinking about giving these or any mulching blades a try, just save your money. Once these or any blades are utilized, sears will not refund your money, which sucks in my opinion. I am writing this long winded review so that others may save their money and not feel misled by the mulching products.

No more slinging grass.
It is great that I could turn the riding mower into a mulcher. No more slinging clumps of grass or rocks across the yard. Needs a little more clearing up on the description of the item, so people will know what model tractor this works on.

Sears installed the mulch blades on my new Craftmans lawn tractor. As I have only used it once for a partiaal lawn cutting I can only tell you it did a nice job and will have to write more later after more uses!

the mulch kit turned out to be far better than I imagined it could be. At first I only had time to put the cover on and I liked it even with half of the equation. Tthen when I installed the mulching blades it was amazing how it mulched.

42" mulching kit works well
I recently purchased a Mulching Kit (CM 42 Mulch Kit) for my YT4000 riding mower, and I am generally pleased with it's performance. It reduces any grass clippings to a negligible amount so that I don't have to rake them or bag them up. My only complaint is that a super fine dust escapes from the front of the the "plug", the plastic unit that fits over the discharge port, and coats the mower and it's rider with a layer of dirt and grass. It obviously is not fitting as well as intended. My prior mower, a **********, had a mulching kit and never covered me with dust after mowing. One last thing - when spending $1700 or more on a mower, it should come with the mulching kit installed, in my opinion. It seemed ridiculous to have to pay and additional $52.95 + local tax to have this feature when mulching is a touted feature of the mower. I am recommending this unit because really you have no other choice with this mower.

Mulch kit was easy to install, now my husband mows without leaving piles of grass, dead grass, everywhere; we brought in our model number of the lawnmower we purchased and the young man helped us find the correct parts we needed, he also printed off an owners manuel for our lawnmower.

The mulching kit on this mower does not work as well as the 16 yr old mower I replaced. It leaves a trail of grass on the side of the mower deck where the exit is covered with the cover from the kit.
