Earthquake 14" chainsaw Very impressive saw!!!

Used this saw all day and it ran great! Lots of power! Cuts like butter! The only thing I had to do during assembly was file out the holes for the side plate, there were a few burrs, other than that a really good saw!

Earthquake CS3816 Chainsaw -- junk!
I have an Earthquake auger and that is great, so I purchased this. What a mistake! Never ran smothly, even though I tried changing the gas, the sparkplug, etc. It would start badly then just not 'pick-up'. Often it would just stop, as if the jets were blocked, normally when at a critical point (up a tree etc.) then refuse to start. Eventually it would start and run so I'd push on, with the chain getting looser (as I didn't want to risk it not starting again). Chain eventually came off, chewed up the bar and itself. I am not going to spend money on a new bar and chain, since I'd still have a sub-standard chainsaw after spending $60 more. By the way, the Earthquake website has a way to contact them "by e-mail" (a form) and they don't even reply. I just wanted a service manual so i could try to get the engine working properly. Wish I'd just taken it back after the first use, when it was obviously a problem.

Too bad there's not a lower grade than "poor".

Bought this and used it for about 90 minutes and it just stopped and can't restart it. Returned it and they gave me another. This one won't start at all.

Good for homeowner

I bought this saw cause I wanted to fell and cut up seven medium sized trees with my son. I purchased it knowing it was a low cost saw. I have used some of the most expensive and well-built saws out there. Cutting it preformed flawlessly. It was hard to start the first time I tried to fire it up, but started with 2 to 4 pulls the rest of the time. After starting the saw, my son and I both found the back of our right hands were bleeding from a small scrape. We both had cut ourselves on the sharp edge of the air filter cover. If you get one of these saws, file the cover edge smooth or wear gloves when starting. Over all this is a very good low cost saw. It worked well. For the homeowner it a great buy, but serious long-term work, it?s not the saw for you.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Earthquake 38cc Chain Saw, 16 Inch Bar

I purchased one just before Christmas 2011.   In June when I went to use it after filling it with oil and gas per instructions, it would spurter and die. Never could get it to run.  I took it to Sears for repair.  Later, it was returned with a note that said that it could not be repaired, because the parts were not available.  Therefore, it was returned to me as it was.  The Sears store manager assisted in replacing Earthquake chain saw with Poulon chain saw in early September.

great work saw

Started right up, worked strong and steady. I was skeptical of it's light weight, but it was stable and steady. Much easier to use on a ladder or in a tree.

Low quality materials

I actually used this saw two times and that was it! The saw could not start right away and made me lose a lot precious time by trying to start it. When cutting, it was ok, low vibration but a good saw is the one that starts and works; this one did not. The spark plug cable melted and was done, back to the store. It seems that the quality used for important components in the machine was overlook by its design. I don't trust this brand anymore!
