This mower is easy to start, easy to use with plenty of power. August 23, 2009
I retired my 14 year old Craftsman 6.0 hp mower and purchased a Craftsman model 37659. This 7.0 hp front wheel drive mower has plenty of power. I cut grass once per week so it's not unusual to cut 3" - 4" off at a time. I use the mulching feature and have no problem cutting through the tall grass, even damp tall grass. The final cut looks great! I have not use the bag yet so no comments there.
The key start works great but I only used it once just to try it out (the key option is for our 13 year old son). This mower easily starts with one pull on the cord. I find the curved padded handle very comfortable. I always wear gloves when I cut the grass but twice now I've realized half way through that I forgot to put them on.
The front wheel drive works fine for me. I've read complaints about the speed of the drive but I find it satisfactory. The instructions that come with the mower indicate that the speed of the drive can be adjusted if needed. Everything about my mower was fine right out of the box but I can see how some may need a little fine tuning. The dual variable speed handles are a nice feature. I do find that the front wheels to tend to stay engaged. You have to push forward about six inches and they release fine (also in the instructions). I find that releasing the drive handles a little earlier and let it roll has made that almost a non issue. The wheel base is longer than my old mower so it takes a little more effort to maneuver in narrow areas.
I think the 37659 is a lot of mower for the price. Overall I'm very satisfied with my purchase.

Buy something else. April 22, 2011
After using this mower about 8 times it will turn over but not run. So much for self starting. Have tried changing spark plug, replacing gas, air filter is clean, everything I know to try. I will take this mower to the repair shop and go buy another, different mower. Then I will try to unload this heap of junk. A pain since I have no good/easy way to transport it. Just get a simple mower. And not from Sears. Growl.

Pros:
starts easy,easy set-up,easy to clean,Looks greatI got this mower reconditioned for a great price. If I had to pay full price I would have brought it back after the first day of use. Front wheel drive does not pull through grass that needs to be cut down 3 inches or more. Under the front of the mower cutting deck is a piece of metal that forms the front of the cutting deck. This metal is flimsy. It bent and the blade was hitting it. I bent it back with a plyers. The rubber skirt is too long. When backing up the skirt goes under the mower and the blade ripped it off. For a 7hp mower the engine surges and dies when cutting thick grass when the grass is needs 4 or more inches cut off the top. This even happens when I go slow and don't use engage the drive system.

Looks greatBest mower I have had. It starts easy and promptly. It runs great and gets the job down in record time. I like the fact that I can use it to mulch without the bag. It also looks great. I guess I am really "styling" while mowing the grass.

After 54 uses (about 54 hours) the rear wheels have cracked and broken and they are $25 each to replace. Is this how Craftsman plans to make thier money? Before I spend another dime at Sears I will by another lawn mower. A toro this time as rated in the Consumer's guide. Shoulda looked there first.
