I have a average size lawn without a lot of trimming required.  I used to use an electrical powered trimmer and was tired of hauling the extension cord around.  Was thinking of purchasing one with a gas motor, but really did not want to mess with mixing the oil and gas for the two cycle engine.  I purchased the battery powered unit and was very pleased with the unit.  Two batteries came with the unit and they were sufficient to trim all my yard and edge my driveway and sidewalk.  I have a edger which has not been used since purchasing the Cordless Trimmer.  I can edge with the trimmer in less time than it takes to get the edger out of the shed.  It is easier to use than the edger and the result is just as good.

This is the second unit I have purchased.  At the start of the third season for the first one, the trimmer did not work.  I suspected the battery would not charge and was going to purchase new batteries,  but they were pretty expensive.  I decided to purchase the second unit.  The problem was with the charging unit.  I am still using the first unit purchased and using the same batteries.  I have since found the charger for other Black and Decker battery powered tools do not last.  However I have never had a problem with replacement charger I have purchased.

Haven't used extensively but so far it is a good weight and balanced.  Battery has done both front and back yards.  Only issue so far is the cord getting tangled internally and having to put that back together when attempting a line advance.  Hasn't been a problem since yet.  Not as powerful as a gas powered but gets the job done.

Not up to par 24 volt cordless trimmer August 10, 2011

This would be a great trimmer if it worked correctly. The auto string feed advances the line out with out stopping leaving the spool empty in seconds! It worked great for two months and now it is useless. I wish I knew how to fix this problem. I am looking at gas trimmers now.

This trimmer/edger is great! With a quick turn of the head you can edge with ease. No uncomfortable holding of the trimmer up side down to edge. You can just push the button to turn the head around to edge. I love it. I am a female and this is even for me (i'm mechanically inclined). No gas or oil to mix. The battery life could be better but is fine for my yard which is pretty big on a corner lot. I get maybe 20 - 25 minutes of reg power or if I use the boost feature for my tougher weeds I get 15 - 20 minutes. I did however buy the extra battery so if I run out of power I can switch bateries. I have not ever been able to finish my yard with both batteries but usually I do not need to use the extra battery (only on those times when I have not cut the grass regularly and my weeds are stubborn :D) I can see how this may be a problem for some quite larger yards. For the convenience of the electric trimmer I would easily deal with the quick changing of a battery for this issue. I charge both batteries after use and then I have them both to use if need be. So yes I acknowledge the low battery life but I think that with my a fairly large size yard I would still buy again and reccomend.
