Craftsman High Wheel Mower Trimmer March 20, 2011

I saw this trimmer work on just regular weeds/grass. I bought it for heavy-duty work. This worked on my 3-4 feet high, thick brush, and weeds, including poison oak vines and whatever else got in the way! I absolutely love it!

If you are using this for thick brush, buy extra string. It really works, but you will need extra. When it hits a thicker trunk, it tends to cut the string down short. But, as I said, it is well worth it in the end! Yes, indeed!

I would recommend it most definitely!

Piece of trash September 07, 2010

I have had the trimmer for two years, one year of which it was out of service due to a clogged carburettor. They failed to place an insulating gasket between the cylinder head and the carburettor causing heat to be conducted into the carburettor causing the gas to boil in the carburettor. The whiskers snap off at the cutter head due to sharp metal at the attachment point. I fixed by using a 5/32 inch round file to cut a radius. The cutter head jams constantly due to vine winding and is nearly impossible to get off and the manual does not provide any help. It lacks a fuel shut off valve and fuel filter.

Poor performer. Hard to push. Will not cut very well. August 22, 2011

    Pros:
    Economical
    Cons:
Not good for anything except your lawn,Hard to push,Will not cut tough blade grass/weeds

Bought mine about a year ago. Wheels did not set straight and angled inward toward body. Very hard to push and had a hard time cutting even the lightest of grass/weeds much less that heavier stuff. Sold it a couple of days ago in yard sell for $75.00.

    Unhappy Owner

Wheeled Trimmer _ NOT a Happy Owner June 23, 2011
    By finisarmo of Newark, CA
    Pros:
    Light weight,Cuts well
    Cons:
    HARD to start warm

I am NOT happy with this unit. It's near impossible to start and will be going in for warranty service today after a VERY unpleasant weed-whacking experience. I will not accept it back unless it starts by the third starter rope pull.

I purchased the CA model several months ago (Oct-2010) at a good sale price. I finally unboxed it and assembled it for a 1 acre weed whacking job a few weeks ago, and another round this last weekend to finish the job. After adding the oil that was included in the box (nice!!) and filling up the gas tank it started after 3 pulls (suweet!!)

But wait, I speak to soon. After the first time I had to shut it down to add gas the bugger was a BEAST to start again. 20 pulls to start... And each time the motor was stopped for fueling or stalled and had to be restarted in was a VERY unpleasant experience. I have a sore arm and blisters on my hand from the goofy shaped starter rope handle. (made for a SMALL hand)

At one point mid-cutting in 70- degree weather, when I added gas and tried unsuccessfully to restart it, I decided to try to prime it will the ball-primer button. I could hear the gas hissing and bubbling as it hit the carburetor. VAPOR LOCK!!!... I was REALLY pissed and frustrated at this point. Literally half of the weed-whacking time was spent trying to get this flaming piece of poop started... (20 pulls. walk away for 10 minutes, more pulls, more waiting...) :( :( :( I finally resorted to refueling it while it was still running.

It finally quit and would not restart when I had a 10sq ft section of overgrowth left to go... NOT the way I like to leave a job (unfinished) :(

Anyway, when it was running , it cut very nicely, no overgrowth in it's path stood a chance, and it manuevered easily enough. . After the job was done I did not have the usual back-ache like I did after using a pole-type trimmer. If this thing would start right it would be a real jewel.

A previous reviewer mentioned that the repair of his unit involved a missing gasket that transferred heat to the carburetor and boiled the gas (hmmm.. vapor lock...) I'll post again about my soon-to-be warranty repair experience..
