Earthquake  Quicksplit 12 Ton Logsplitter with Viper 196cc Engine

i bought this at another home store on clearence, and with 10% off for $450 a few yrs ago. i have never had a piece of wood i couldnt split. ive used it on oak. walnut,cherry, maple - it even split gum where the wood just tore apart. this is a perfect homeower splitter. i have ZERO complaints, and is small enough to eaily store and move around. even folds up/down to make it easier to store and move around. those 20 plus ton splitters are just total over kill for my needs.. for what i paid, i got my own splitter for a little more than a legal cord of premium wood where i live, only $150 more than those small electric splitters.. i sold my 4 ton electric and paid for half of this.. another nice feature is the fact that its designed to be able to be towed by an atv, and still connect another small trailer behind it.. so if you need something to bring into the woods - this is for you..

This is a great little log splitter for the price. I have had it 6 months now and it will split everything that I can left up to put on it. Had a little problem with hydrolic pump the teeth had separated. I called there customer service and they told me to check that out first and that's what it was. I said to them that I could fix it but I didn't want to void warranty he said it wouldn't it had just vibrated loose was all. Just had to tighten a set screw and he even sent me a replacement one in case I had anymore problems but the one on there is fine still, great, great customer service. I never write reviews but read them about products and thought people should know about my experience with this company.

I purchased this log splitter recently.  While the entire thing had to be put together, it was not horribly difficult (although I would recommend 2 people for some of it as these parts can be quite heavy), and did not take a really long time.  I think it was all ready to go in about 90 minutes.  Follow the directions step by step carefully, and keep some of the pictures handy as a reference!  This log splitter when full assembled ends up being pretty large, so make sure that you have a place to keep it.  My only regret is that I do not have a 4 wheeler or a trailer hitch on a vehicle to lug this thing around my property, as it will undoubtedly do a great job on splitting wood.  A couple of trial logs I ran through it were no match for this brute.

Got it home and unpacked it.  You have to assemble some parts but it's not too difficult.  The manual is a little vague on a few of the hoses but by looking at the picture on the Sears website I made sure which hose went where and the placement over or under.  It comes with two gallons of hydraulic fluid and a quart of oil for the engine so you don't need to worry about buying any to start off.

This log splitter is great for home use.  I have split a ton of Oak so far and have a lot more to go through.  Some drawbacks were the bolts on the ram head...the slider that holds it on the beam...came loose and stripped and I had to saw one off.  They are sending new ones but I went and bought the same bolts and locking nuts at ****** and fixed it but added a locking nut under the bolt and now they are holding nice and tight!!!  So you might want to do that first thing to save the hassle I had.  Also changing the oil is a pain since the drain plugs are on the bottom side of the engine and the oil flows over the axle plate and runs off both sides.  Better placement of the drain plugs on the back of the engine would have been much better and made for easier draining.

Overall I am very happy with the splitter.  I needed something for use in my yard as I like to accumulate as much free Oak as I can when people want to get rid of it and I was tired of splitting it by hand.  It splits great and so far has split any knotty pieces I run through it.  Another nice thing is when you reverse the ram it automatically keeps going all the way back when you let go of the handle.  Nice feature so you can be picking up the next log without wasting time holding the ram handle.
