I saw this in an ad and decided to try it, doing a small part for the environment. I didn't have high hopes, but it made me feel good. Well, to my surprise, this thing actually works well and is easy to use while giving me a little exercise in the process. If I need to get the string trimmer out, I confess I will usually use it to edge while I have it out, but for those in between times this is really handy to make the yard look nice. But don't leave it outside with that wooden handle. It would be perfect if they had put a better handle on it.

I had a single wheel Craftsman edger for 10 years when a part broke. Sears replaced it with this model. In one season, I have had to replace it four times because is bends out of shape when you use it for its intended purpose and then becomes unuseable. The ONLY saving grace is that they keep replacing it when it bends, but I'm getting pretty tired of returning them. I really prefer the manual edger and have used them for 30 or 40 years starting as a kid with my father's edgers. They work well, don't use any energy, other than your own. This is undoubtedly the most cheaply made one I have ever seen. I wish I could find a high quality replacement. Anyone who has given this more than one star is very kind, but isn't giving the true story.

See all reviews for this productI cannot believe this thing actually works, but it does. It's a lot of work, but if you need a cheap way to edge your yard, want to get in shape, or you have small areas that have to be edged, this is perfect. Construction seems solid.
mowing the lawnOkay I grew up with these things. My Dad had one that he pulled out whenever I got mouthy and he'd make me edge both sides of our 75' driveway and 30' sidewalk. Now as an adult I needed an edger and was too cheap to buy a power one. Hey, I grew up on one of these right? Yeah. Seems my Dad had a better tool or I was in much better shape as a mouthy teeneager. I'm in pretty good shape now, so I'm thinking Dad had a better tool. This thing will infuriate you if your yard has never been edged or it's been a while. New home, last owner never edged. It took me all of 5 minutes edging with this before I bent it, and 2 hours of intense manual labor to finish roughly 250'. It doesn't roll smoothly by the way, and thick grass gets tangled easily. I have lots of tools and have always trusted Craftsman, that's why I didn't buy one from **********. Disappointed in this though. The edger is now called my "Amish Edger" by my buddy who borrowed it. He returned it bent and absolutely drenched in sweat. He has not asked to borrow it since. I gave it two stars instead of one because I cannot say it failed to perform it's function. So if you are looking to get a lower back workout and stopping to rebend it every 3 minutes this is the tool for you!
trying to get fit and have a good yardI would like to seen a bit sturdier material here, but I guess for the price it suffices.
My first run around the sidewalk was real work. The lot had not been edged in months by the previous owner.
I also had to learn how best to make it work. At first I wanted to lean against metal spikes trying to force them into the earth.
I quickly realized that I needed to lean against the plastic wheel more allowing the spikes to spin and gradually dig into the earth and cut the grass.
A guy who ran by said that I had a hard job ahead of me. My thought I was that going for a jog was just as hard, and was a less productive way to burn calories.
I have enjoyed my edger. The edge has held up two weeks. I will have to get out and give it another run this weekend.
Basically it is worth the physical benifits to me and the low impact on my budget. And there is nothing more annoying to me than wrangling a power cord or having to run out for gas to finish the grass.
light yard workHandle is great, metal is cheap and bends easily. If you have to cut anything tougher than water, don't buy this. I am 50, out-of-shape, and the tool wore out before I did! In less than 60 minutes of edger one side of my short driveway, it was bent so badly I couldn't go on. I had edged the driveway 2 weeksw before with a gas edger! In 80+ heat, I was barely sweating! I hope I can get a refund.
