    Great Product, Even Better Price September 15, 2010

    Solid maul with high visibility handle since I always drop it into a pile of leaves and can't find it. Seems well built and the balance was dead on. Tip needed to get sharpened but it's probably safer to not have ridiculously sharp tips while in the store. Best part was the awesome sale they had on it when i got it. Ship to store was instant, and the pick up was about 2 minutes wait. Can't get better than that!

    Nothing to get excited about November 03, 2008

    I bought this for the lifetime warranty after having gone through two hickory handles on my old maul head handed down from my Dad in short order (and I wasn't missing the wedge, either). I found that the handle vibrated harshly when striking. I also found that the "sharpened" edge is so blunt it just beats on the surface of the log to be split. I spent about 20 minutes at my bench grinder and narrowed down the taper on the blunt edge and put a semi-sharpend edge on it. Works better, but still needs improvement. Perhaps another 30 minutes on the grinder will help. Haven't decided yet if I'm keeping it, but I'm definitely not happy with it. If not for the warranty, it would already have been returned.

    initially was a little sceptical of the dull blade, it wasn't an issue at all. split 3 cords and like a hot knife and butter

    Bought this maul after moving into new home. We had a very large stump that needed removing and this maul handled the job just fine. I would it to be very sturdy and trusting.

    Works great and seems very well-built. A few things are changed from the previous version-- it is red fiberglass handle, with "Craftsman" molded in (not a sticker), and has a black rubber grip on the handle. The 6lb head is fine for me, and I am not small (6', 190). But maul head weight is very much a personal preference. The handle grip is nice-- this thing can not possible fly out of your hands, no matter what you are wearing. It seems sturdy. It has a little reinforcment collar at the weak spot right below where the head joins handle. I certainly hit the weak spot more than I should, with no signs of damage. Other reviewers noted the head needs to be sharpened. Here's what is odd... I went to the store and there were four in stock. One was very sharp (so I bought that one), two were pretty sharp (sharp enough), and the fourth was extremely dull (almost looked like some one ground it down. weird). If I would have mail ordered and received one that dull I would have sent it right back. Overall, I am very happy. I spent $29 for a solid tool with a lifetime warranty. I think you can save $5 or $10 at Big Box Store, and get a much inferior product (some of those heads are even cast!) with no warranty.
