Just a tool version of the real thing
Bought this to dig up stumps from damaged trees after a tornado. I spent more time exchanging this pick than digging. The 2 major problems I had: the maddock blade would bend over and the pick blunted on the rocks and then would break off. I noticed on my 5th exchange the maddock blade is so weak with 1 hand I could fold the blade over and I am not a big guy. This isn't a truely forged steel pick, it must be a cast head with surface forgeing. The end result was that I had to use my great grandfathers pick-axe to do the job with its 90y.o. hickory handle. Although, I did later find a real pick-axe but it cost me $125.

Craftman 5lb. Pick Mattock
I purchased the Craftman 5lb. Pick Mattock to dig up small trees in my back yard. With one good swing I was able to remove most of the small rooted trees in my yard. The Pick Mattock works very well for small jobs such as the one I was working on.

Yellow Handle.
Heavy, but digs and cuts well. Gets lots of use. Holds up well. Mine has a yellow handle. So has lifetime warranty. Some of the newer ones have red handles, and the warranty is not as good as it used to be. Read the fine print. Wish Sears would do a better job of stamping their tools "Craftsman".

The mattock I bought has a red craftsman handle and is perfect.
The mattocks I have has a craftsman handle and is very well built. The handle is formed to fit your hands and not slip when they are wet. I have been looking for a very good mattocks for about a month now and this is the best quaility mattocks I have found.

Nice Stump remover
Used this to rip out dozens of tree stumps, ranging from a few pounds to hundreds of pounds in the past month, with relative ease. Nice feel to it with the fiberglass handle/head absorbing a lot of the impact, nice to work with.

This pick-axe is one bad monkey. I have put this thing through h3ll and it has not even shown signs of use. I use it to split wood, dig holes, get my truck out of a bind in the woods. A little spray paint on the head and it looks like new again. DONT buy another brand, you are just wasting your money, I have bought so many picks over the years..... just bought my last one this time. Forever warranty means FOREVER
