Super Quiet - Powerful Snow Clearing February 02, 2008

This is the 2nd season with this machine and i would say it performs well beyond my expectations especially with all the bad press you see here. I bought this a few years back to replace my small Toro CCR "flap" augur that died after 10 years of use. Up until then, i was perfectly happy with the slow, noisy, hard-to-start characteristics of that old model toro. I somehow lost the cord for the Craftman's electric starter but i got it fired up in just 2 pulls, manually. The 4 stroke Briggs and Stratton engine is so quiet, i can use this early morning without waking my neighbors. This machine is amazingly fast. I just cleared about 8" from our latest Chicago storm and it threw it far and fast without a hitch. My driveway is rather long, about 120 feet and i was able to clear that, my sidwalk, and my neighbor's sidewalk in a little over 30 minutes. If anyone has a dying older toro single stage, you'll be in for a great suprise with this model to replace it with.

Disappointing at best February 01, 2008

I am severely disappointed in this item. Poorly constructed. 2nd year of use in SE Michigan and I've just spent 2 and 1/2 hours working on it reinstalling the gear onto the chute turning mechanism. Handle stopped turning chute 2 weeks ago because whatever was used to connect the handle to the chute turning gear came out. Had to remove much of the plastic covers to get to the gear mechanism to install a cotter key to get the unit working. Various plastic pieces were cracked and / or broken. The nuts were missing to the bolts that hold the electric start button in place. The nut holding the key assy into the housing is plastic and found it cross threaded when I removed it. It wouldn't tighten when reinstalling it due to stripped plastic threads. They couldn't spend an extra 10 or 20 cents and use a metal nut??? Rivets holding the botton scraper on the body were both pulled out of the mounting holes and the scraper was ready to come off. I have probably used this item 20 times in the couple of years I have had it. I'm surprised that this has the craftsman name on it. I would not suggest this item to anyone.

    Get what u pay 4 October 14, 2008
    By Anonymous of Cleveland, Ohio

I owned this blower for about 3 years now. Yes the auger is worn and isn't self propelled anymore and the shute bolts came undone and I needed to replace them twice and it gets clogged a lot but it is an inexpensive blower and works as well as I expected. Better than using a shovel. Remember, you get what you pay for. That's the bottom line.

read this before you buy September 14, 2008
    By cheapfool of Cleveland, OH

as far as clearing the drive it works good but it has a big down fall, it has plastic sides and these sides also act as the runners, they wear down on the concreate which causes the rubber on the auger to wear down till it is not usable, spend the extra money on a single stage with metal sides. if you still want to buy it, make sure you buy the service agreement, you will need it when the sides and the auger need replaced. i have only had mine for 3 years and had it in twice for this problem, i live in cleveland and don't get a lot of snow like some people, i am spending the money this year and buying a single stage with metal sides. with all the money i spent on the unit and service contracts, it would be the same as buying a better sigle stage with metal sides. don't make the same mistake i made, once you find out about the sides and rubber on the auger wearing down, it is to late for the satisfaction guarantee

    Snow thrower August 21, 2008
    By BigDog1949 of Stoutsville,Ohio

Bought it last year(before wintertime) and we had about 2 feet of snow at one time. It worked well, even though I could have used a larger HP thrower, and I would recommend it for usual snow conditions.

Piece of Junk August 04, 2008
    By snowypa of Pittsburgh, PA

After one year our snow blower fell apart starting with the handle then the chute. We only used it on light snow on a concrete driveway. We kept in the the garage all year long so it wasn't exposed to any elements. The motot still runs but the blower housing and handle are not repairable.
