Great pump!
I just bought this pump to replace my 3/4hp Flotec Floodmate pump which had failed for the second time (like the reviews say, a flood wil be your mate if you buy that pump). The performance is outstanding. The other benefits are the cast iron base and stainless steel housing...the base raises the pump's water intake openings 2" above the bottom of the sump resevoir, keeping the openings away from dirt and sediment that can collect on the bottom. I also think the switching mechanism is of a better design than the Flotec mechanism (which is the part known to fail). The stainless steel housing adds to the durabilty, and the unit has a lifetime warranty. As far as the other review goes, I believe that gentleman must have unfortunately received a faulty unit from the start; mine emptied the sump extremely quickly and powerfully.

Can't push water 3 feet
I bought this to replace my old, rusting pump that is starting to give me problems. One of the things I liked was that it had 3/4 hp and said it could pump 4,000 gph at a height of 10'. I guess maybe my motor was faulty, but it wasn't pushing any water up the pipe at all. I triple checked that I had done everything correctly (correct amperage, voltage, etc).
Their instructions say to call them if you have problems. Great, except it was Saturday and my sump was rapidly filling up. They're only open for customer service Monday-Friday. I took it back to where I bought it (not Sears) and got my money back.

beware of lifetime warranty!!
The pump works fine....if you live in an area that causes your pump to run continuously year round, then the switch will go within a year or 2....you can get a replacement pump because of the lifetime warranty, but only on the pump originally purchased, after that, there isn't any warranty on the replacement pump. Factor in that Simer wants you to ship the pump to them (at your expense) to determine a course of action to take....and you have to do something in the meantime so that your basement doesn't flood....I would say that Simer's lifetime warranty is a marketing gimmick to perpetuate the planned obselescence of its product. It is a good pump with a poorly designed switch.

Switch keeps breaking
I'm on my 4th exchange of this sump pump. It always starts out great, but in a few months, the pump will start running non-stop. After speaking with customer service, they advised the float switch is malfunctioning, and to return it for an exchange. I've returned it 4 times already...all with the same problem...the switch. They recently started making another model with an external electric switch (similar to sumpwatcher). But these electric switches have a limited lifespan. Be warned...

One Year Later
I live on a property that has a natural spring (Springboro, Ohio), so I needed "the Cadillac" of pumps. With stainless steel bits and a lifetime "Ace-in-the-hole" warranty, this seemed to do the trick. And it did, at least for 14 months. I came home last night and the bearings had seized on the unit. The water it was pumping was not cloudy - just standard french drained rainwater. It cycles about 3 times and hour, and drains the sump in about 30 seconds. So in a year and two month's time, that would be a continuous use of (420 days x 24 hours/day x 90 seconds/hour) = 15,120 minutes, or 252 hours (or 10 days roughly). So a failure seems premature. While it was working, however, it is very quiet, seems well made, easy to install, good instructions and generally looks worthy of the cash outlay. Only engineering gripe is the float, which could be more substantially anchored, and caged to prevent it from being held in its down position (and nicely flooding your basement). It didn't happen on this model, but happened on a previous unit by another company. So what happened? beats me. But the next size smaller (1/2 HP) has a five year warranty, so I assumed this should last at least seven years or better. So since yesterday was July the 4th (and Sears stores closed early, a great time for your sump pump to go out...), by battery backup has been doing the trick. So today I will swap the defective unit out for a new one and give it a try.
I would recommend this product to a friend.
