Those who seek a simple "standard" furnace filter will do well to install a MERV 8 furnace filter in the correct size. These are the pleated paper type that is commonly used by those with no particular allergies. Theye more economical than an anti-allergy filter, but are able to filter smaller particles than the blue-fiber variety. The pleated paper can trap larger particles like carpet fibers, large pollen particles and pet dander enough to reduce the need to dust. Depending on the conditions, they can last about 1-2 months before needing replacement. A 6-pack should be enough to last at least an entire winter in most cold-climate areas.
