Blu-Ray DVD players provide exceptional picture clarity and uncompressed sound, allowing for a much cleaner reproduction of movies and TV shows. Sears offers Blu-Ray DVD players from top brands including Samsung, Panasonic and Sony with high-end features for the best possible home movie experience.
Most Blu-Ray players are capable of outputting video at resolutions up to 1080i or 1080p, the "p" indicating progressive scan capability. This allows for much better picture quality than what is possible with standard DVD players, which were designed for non-HD televisions. Blu-Ray players allow users to select the proper output for their TVs, which can range from 720p to 1080p depending on the television's capabilities. While Blu-Ray provides improved picture quality at lower resolutions, 1080p or 1080i resolutions will provide the most detail and the clearest difference in performance between Blu-Ray and standard DVD.
Blu-Ray players are connected to an HDTV via component video or an HDMI jack. HDMI Blu-Ray players provide the best picture and sound quality, but component video can still provide a great movie experience when a TV doesn't have an HDMI input.
Additional features set apart different Blu-Ray player models and can provide for more varied entertainment. For example, many newer Blu-Ray players have Internet connectivity. Internet connectable DVD players make it easy to stream videos directly from online movie and TV websites including Netflix, Hulu, Amazon and YouTube. Alphaline-enabled Blu-Ray players allow for instant movie and TV show rental, which can further expand a home theater's capabilities. Blu-Ray players with Internet connectivity use WiFi to connect to a home's Internet connection, so it's important to have WiFi set up before buying a Blu-Ray device with this feature.
Another relatively new feature is 3D output. Blu-Ray players with 3D output will require a 3D-capable television and 3D glasses. Blu-Ray DVD players with 3D output can also play standard Blu-Ray discs. All Blu-Ray players are also capable of playing standard DVDs and CDs.
Modern televisions are capable of almost unbelievable detail and quality, but it takes a great Blu-Ray DVD player from Sears to bring out the true potential of an HDTV and a home entertainment system.
