Receivers allow multiple audio and video components to be used with a home sound system. DVD players, televisions, CD players and other devices send a signal to a receiver, which amplifies the signal and routes it to speakers or a TV screen. A receiver is absolutely necessary when using several types of audio devices with a single set of speakers. Sears has audio/video receivers from Sherwood, Sony, Yamaha and other trusted brands.
The number of channels on an audio/video receiver directly affect its capabilities and the number of components that it can handle at one time. Most receivers have between 5-8 audio channels. A typical channel supports standard RCA jacks, which are the red and white jacks used by most audio equipment. Digital channels support optical, component or HDMI inputs. Digital audio/video receivers offer the best sound and video reproduction, with crystal-clear audio and video resolutions of up to 1080p. 3D receivers are also available and are necessary when hooking up a 3D-capable DVD player and HDTV.
Some audio receivers don't have video inputs. These dedicated receivers can still be used with a television's audio output, but are incapable of directly routing video signals. Dedicated home audio receivers may have built-in AM/FM radios or audio-in jacks, which offer an easy way to play music from an MP3 player or computer through a home sound system.
Surround sound receivers can output sound to 5.1 or 7.1 speakers. 5.1 speaker systems have five speakers and one subwoofer, while 7.1 systems have seven speakers and one subwoofer. Most DVD players, Bluray players and SACD players are capable of outputting a digital surround sound signal to a surround sound receiver.
A quality receiver is essential for incredible sound and video. Sears has dozens of affordable audio/video receivers for bringing a thrilling home theater experience to any living room.
