Combination nailers and staplers are essential tools in modern residential construction. They use either electricity or pneumatic pressure provided by portable air compressors to drive staples or nails more rapidly and surely than any carpenter could hope to do with unpowered tools.

Brad nailers are designed to shoot small finishing nails or brads. In addition to their speed, brad nailers are also extremely accurate. They are able to fasten thin and delicate molding or trim into place without damaging the wood. Sears carries several different brands and models of combination brad nailers and staplers, as well as portable air compressors and pneumatic hoses.

Combination nailers and staplers do not only drive small finishing nails or brads. Framing nailers drive 6d to 16d nails as quickly as the trigger can be pulled. This efficiency dramatically reduces the time of framing a structure and speeds construction projects. Some framing nailers use rolled coils of nails, and others use strips of nails similar to strips of staples. The coil framing nailers are more compact and hold roughly five times the quantity of nails that a strip nailer can hold, but many contractors opt for strip nailers because of balancing issues.

Coils of nails are always headless. Strips of nails can be headless or have round heads. This is another factor that influences many contractorsdecision to use the strip nailers instead of coil nailers. Framing nailers can be set for bounce firing, where the nailer fires a nail each time the tip is depressed, or sequential firing, which requires that the tip be depressed and the trigger be pulled before a nail is fired.

Roofing nailers have only one function. They nail down roofing shingles. Most roofing nailers use coiled nails because capacity is more important to a roofer than the balance of the tool. The tool is always pointed downward, and this makes balance less of an issue than it would be for a framer. Sears carries many brands of quality roofing nailers.
