Flooring takes many forms, but even the most basic is easier to install or upgrade with the proper accessories. The tools and glue required for simple installations are just the start - adding heating or other upgrades can make it truly pleasant to walk barefoot across the floor.

Floor heating is one of the best upgrades for floors in colder climates. These heaters are installed underneath the tiles during the process of floor installation. The resulting floor looks normal, but becomes nice and warm when the heating switch is activated. The various heating systems are made to work with particular types of flooring to provide safe and effective warmth on demand.

If your concrete floor has become damaged in a small area, try fixing the problem with floor patch. This cement is made to adhere to concrete and masonry to fill gaps and level out dips. Shallow repairs will dry within 2-3 hours. For deeper repairs, apply the floor patch in layers and let each layer dry for the full amount of time before putting down the next layer.

When there a high possibility of moisture coming up through the floor, put down a layer of moisture-resistant underlayment as you install the flooring to stop problems before they start. Just place it between concrete slabs and hardwood floors to prevent warping and rot. It can also be used with other surfaces that require a moisture barrier.

Transitions between rooms or flooring types look better when the joint is hidden. Use T-molding to hide seams with a nice-looking cover. The top of this type of molding is rounded to prevent tripping, while a downward-facing connector provides stability. T-molding can also be used to cover expansion joints in large floors. This molding is available in many colors, so it not hard to find some that will look nice with your flooring materials.
