Being able to secure items while working on them is an important aspect for most jobs. That's where bench vises come in. Typically, vises firmly hold materials while applying other tools to them. Work can include cutting, drilling, bending, sawing and shaping. A general-purpose vise can normally handle most jobs. For the most basic applications, Craftsman vises are well recognized for reliability. These bolt to tables and benches, and they come with the standard Craftsman warranty for one year.
Another type of vise uses a suction base in order to secure it to a working surface. This is known as a vacuum base vise. These types of vises give the added advantage of portability. Instead of having to secure separate vises at multiple locations, vacuum base vises can be moved as necessary. This comes in handy when working jobs off-site or for multiple clients. When the job is finished, the vise is returned. Contractors may find this useful for supplying all the necessary tools for the job.
A more specialized vise is needed for working with a drill press. Drill press vises allow for precision and accuracy. When parts are machined and require holes to be made with very little tolerance, these vises need to be used. Those with cradles can be used for drilling at angles. Some come with alignment pins for working at standard angles. This allows holes to be drilled at angles and on surfaces that would otherwise be impossible.
Certain materials require vises that are more specialized. Pipes are one example. When bending or working with a pipe, it is usually better to use a pipe vise. Pipes can creep in vises with flat surfaces. Woodworking is another example. There are woodworking vises to handle the unique needs of dealing with wood. Normally, wood can become damaged with other vises that have teeth or small contact area. Woodworking vises gently hold wood to prevent unwanted impressions.
Working on hard materials becomes much easier when they are secured properly. Finding the right vise for the job is also made easier by the large selection of vises at Sears.
