    Take the Time to KNOW your TVs January 03, 2008

    The Sony XBRs rank #1 in LCD TV and whether in their 46" or 52" units. There are 2 XBR units available from Sony: The XBR4 and the XBR5 (Black high gloss piano finish). That is the ONLY difference. The units are pricey, as compared to a Samsung or Olevia or Phillips. However, if you're looking at the XBR, price cannot be the concern. Picture, features, style, c. are. That's where the Sony outshines its competition (if you can say with a smile that a Samsung or Olevia or Phillips or whatever brand is competition; we would disagree - of course). We purchased the Sony XBR4 46" set to replace a Panasonic 42" rear projection that required repair yearly or more frequently. We also researched the web obtaining reviews from Consumer Reports, CNET, and other places. For us, what price we could get on the XBR4 was the only factor. And, Sears gave us the best price. We would not consider any of the other Sony Bravia units, even though Consumer Reports does recommend the Bravia unit that is one step down from the XBR. We went right for the top-of-the-line and we're not looking back. The XBRs are the ONLY sets to buy within the LCD TV community. Of note, we also considered Plasma and focused on the Panasonic 50" Plasma set, available at Sears. The Sony won because of our "TV room" due to the significant natural light of the room. The plasma would not have performed as well (light reflection, glare). Our recommendation: forget the XBR price, buy the XBR (you choose the size: 46" or 52" for your needs). You'll be so pleased that you'll brag and boast to your friends and then tell them to leave when they come to watch your set.

    Sony OR Samsung? January 13, 2008

    When it comes down to high-end lcd tv's the competition comes down to this television and samsung's 71 series. They are both available in the same sizes and they both carry the motion-smooting 120 hz technology and - provided you look hard enough and take advantage of Sear's flexible price match policy and warrant service - are about the same price. However, when it comes right down to it, the real difference comes in the form of contrast. 25,000:1? That incredible number is only beat by Samsuing's new 81 series. Contrast like that means a picture that is so lifelike and three-dimentional it will blow you away. Skip the sony and buy the Samsung 71

    After researching HDTVs for months, it came down to this TV and a Samsung 6 series LCD. I decided to go with this TV because I thought Sony was a better brand. The guy at the store was suggesting the Samsung but I went with the Sony. I'm regreting it now because my friend has the Samsung I was looking at and when I go over to his house I think it just looks better than my picture. My picture isn't bad. HDTV in general is awesome but I wish I got the Samsung instead. If you get this TV, you will probably not be disappointed. Like I said, it's a good picture but after several attempts to adjust the picture I can't get it to look like my friend's TV.

    Wow...I watched this TV for the past year and a half. I owned an XBR series for the past 8 years and knew that it was THE TV to purchase. With Sears clearance price, there was no hesitating. The TV is outstanding and the value evn better. This television started at $4000 and now it is half price, stop your search and buy today!

    I looked long and hard for a new TV. I used to work in electronic sales and have owned nothing but a Sony for the last 30 years, the most recent one was purchased over 15 years ago. Now it's time to get a LCD so naturally started looking at the Sony line. Since my last TV was a 27" I wanted to go to a bigger screen and actually was looking at Sony's 52" W series when I saw the 46" XBR4 for $1,999 at Sears. Knowing that the XBR series is top of the line that Sony makes, seeing the picture, playing around with the remote and finding all of the features, and looking at the specs, that was it. I had it delivered a week ago Sunday. Needless to say, I don't miss the 52" I was originally looking at.
