Sharpening knife with a whetstone is the most effective way and it takes only 5 minutes with this simple process:
1. Fully immerse the stone into water and let it soak for 10-20 minutes.
2. Grind a blade across the lower grit stone. Alternate blade sides each stroke or every 2-3 strokes.
Stroking direction - you can stroke forward or backward. It's a matter of comfort.
The goal is to raise burr.
3. After burr formed switch to the higher grit to hone finish the blade.
Repeat the grinding until you see a burr again. Usually, it will take just a little bit longer than on the lower grit side.
4. Test your blade by cutting paper or tomato. Your blade should slice through easily. (If not, repeat the process)
Use the flattening stone to flatten the surface of the stone after several uses.
Let the stone and the base to completely dry for at least 24 hours before storing.
