Get all the data with test and measuring tools

Figuring out electrical problems requires a bit of investigative work. Their complexity demands a number of testing tools to obtain a comprehensive picture of the electrical equipment you have. Additionally, this information can keep you safe by revealing the circuitry you have to fix. Having enough testing equipment is just as important as the tools to fix the problem. Find the measuring tools you need at Sears today.

Every electrician should have an infrared or no-touch thermometer. These thermometers measure the amount of IR radiation emitted and then estimate the temperature of the object. First and foremost, this keeps you safe because you won't have to get as close to the element to measure the temperature. When it comes to electrical work, these thermometers give you the ability to see where the charge buildup is occurring, creating hotspots in your circuit. Once you determine the location of the problem, you can conclude which parts need to be replaced.

In addition to an infrared thermometer, it's smart to invest in a clamp-on ammeter. Clamp meters measure AC or DC current without having to entirely interrupt the circuit itself. The tool clamps onto a wire and measures the current by testing the field created by the current passing through the clamp. This, like an IR thermometer, is a safer way for testing current. However, these tools are not as accurate as in-circuit testers. They have difficulty with low ampere output and are providing a vector sum of the current passing through. What they lack in precision they make up for in speed. If the clamp meter isn't reading current then you know where you need to come back and test further. For large project issues or general system maintenance, this is the tester for the job.

There are a number of devices to help you collect the electrical information you need. Sears has borescopes to help you see tight spaces: The light attached to the lens will illuminate these dark spaces and project the image onto a LED screen. For film and photography enthusiasts, having a light meter on hand will make sure you're getting the right light for the right shot.

Getting a job done right means having as much insight as possible. Stop by Sears and get all the testing and measuring tools to give you the information you need to do your best work.
