Fastening things together is often a simple matter of using a screw or bolt. Some projects, however, require unique equipment to get the job done. Here are a few specialty fasteners that are good for specific tasks.

Attaching round conduits to walls or ceilings can cause a quandary without the right accessories. Fortunately, conduit hangers are made for this exact task. An adjustable bolt allows one end to be opened to accept the conduit while the other end is solid, so it can be sturdily attached to the desired surface. Using a few of these can make the difference between a project that looks makeshift and one that appears to be professionally-done.

Tying things to the ground can be hard to do if all you have is a straight pole. Using proper earth anchors will ensure that your tie-downs stay where you want them. Long earth anchors are good for tying down sheds or attaching guy lines for newly-planted trees. Shorter versions are great attachment points for dog chains or light lawn furniture. The secret of earth anchors lies in the flanges or augers that protrude from their ends. These allow the anchors to stay put unless intentionally removed.

It's easy to attach smaller items to wood and other surfaces with barbed staples. They're great for attaching barbed-wire fencing to wooden posts. These staples also come in large sizes, so they can fit around things like dowels. Smaller versions work well with chicken wire, screening or tarps. The ends of the staples are barbed, and the shafts are grooved to give them extra gripping power. Galvanized versions resist corrosion. Barbed staples are available in small packs or huge tubs to meet the needs of any project.
