Line Reels Help you Go the Distance

Sometimes you need to create or measure a straight, long line. When your 25-foot tape measure just can't get the job done, shop Sears for a great selection of line reels. We stock a number of them, so you can find one that's just the right length. Grab a line reel tape measure when you're looking to revamp your backyard, give your siding a new kick or measure flooring in large rooms.

Sometimes, you want to get a measurement, but you can't be sure the laser measuring tool is getting a proper reading. The simplicity of its design means that you know every measurement will be solid. A good option for a 100-foot line reel with a double-sided blade is one made by Black Rhino USA. It has a large handle and heavy-duty gear-turning ratio. The tape winds smoothly and evenly. If you need a longer line reel, look at Lufkin. It has a model that can extend all the way out to 200-foot.

When you need to make a straight line when hanging wallpaper, tape measures just won't do. You need a chalk reel. Some chalk lines require you to load the chalk box with powdered chalk. Others come with some chalk already in the box; all you have to do is shake the tool. That makes sure the chalk is evenly distributed on the line inside. Next, take the hook that's on one end and hook it on a nail or other sturdy object at the starting point of where you want the line to be. If that's not possible or it's difficult to do by yourself, phone a friend. Pull on the opposite end to make sure it's taut. Then use your index finger and thumb to grab hold of the line, and snap it. When it hits the wall, it'll leave a straight line of chalk behind.

There are several colors of chalk to choose from, including white, blue, yellow, red and even fluorescent hues. Sears recommends you choose the color based on the project. Some colors are difficult to impossible to remove, so be sure to test a spot first. Indoors, use white. It is removable. Outside, you can use any of the other colors, again, based on the ability to remove them. Sometimes, if it takes several days to work on a project, so you need the chalk line to last longer than you would for an interior application.

You can finish a number of honey-do projects with the help of a chalk line, which can be used indoors or out, and surveying tools outdoors. Sears offers a variety of tools from a number of manufacturers so that you can take on household and lawn and garden projects. You'll save money and have the satisfaction of knowing you did it yourself.
