Laser levels help you quickly, easily ensure surfaces are level

Whether you're building furniture in your workshop, installing kitchen cabinets or remodeling a bathroom, you need to make accurate measurements so that everything is level. You'll find exactly what you're looking for here at Sears. We have a number of leveling tools from which you can choose.

To explain laser levels, let's start with the most basic option, the standard level. Also called spirit or bubble level, a standard level is a flat bar that comes in a variety of lengths. Each level has a glass vial partially filled with a liquid, leaving a bubble. The vial liquid is yellow or blue. Though yellow is more common, some swear by blue, claiming it is more accurate and easier to read. Each vial is marked with a pair of lines; when the bubble is between the lines, it is perfectly level.

Laser levels are often built on the same idea, but more high tech. Instead of watching a bubble, they produce a red or green light beam. The types of laser levels vary, but they all rely on two elements: a laser and a leveling base. Some rely on a bubble vial level mechanism, similar to a standard level, while others use a pendulum and magnets. The result, however, is the same.

With all of that information in mind, let's look at just a few of your many tool-buying options you have online at Sears. We'll start with the professional laser level from Craftsman, America's most trusted brand. It has three bubble levels: one for zero degrees, one for 45 degrees, and one for 90 degrees. If the job you're doing requires you to check even more angles, check out Swanson Tool's heavy-duty magnetic torpedo level. The vial positions for it are at zero, 30, 45 and 90 degrees. With Craftsman's digital torpedo level, you won't have to do any guesswork. It has a large backlit LCD screen, and when it hits a perfect 45 degrees, it gives you an audible tone.

Depending on what surface you need to make sure is level, you may need some other tools in your toolbox, too. Two such tools are plumb bobs and squares. A plumb bob is one of the simplest and yet effective and efficient tools you'll ever own. It's a weight attached to a string. That's it. Yet with it you can make sure you have a true, straight vertical line. A square allows you to check the accuracy of right angles. The woodworking enthusiast will find himself reaching for a square again and again, from making fast, square cuts to grabbing a quick measurement. Sears has all the tools you need to get it right the first time.
